Hey guys I got a new Dell inspiron 14 that was working fine for a few days and is now giving me an error message.

The AC power adapter type cannot be determined

Your system will operate slower and battery will not charge. This problem might be solved by:

Ensure the plug is inserted completely for best system operation.

Connect a Dell 45W AC adapter or higher.

The pc is running slowly and the battery is not being charged. If i leave it in it still remains at whatever % the battery was charged at meaning, I don't lose charge even though it is not charging the battery. This message shows up when the charger is plugged in.

Typically indicative of a bad charger... but it could also be the power jack or motherboard. Do you have a known good power adapter to test with your laptop or a known good laptop to test with your adapter?

Sorry, I haven't been able to find a charger to test with as most Dell's in my country are the old models and their charger won't plug into my laptop. Yeah, I had figured as much as I had an HP that had a bad power connector way back and exhibited similar symptoms. Also the battery on these newer notebooks are sealed so I can't even test the charger on the notebook with the battery removed.

The laptop was bought from BestBuy (within the past 2 months) in the USA and I'd assume it'll be under warranty of some sort. I'm afraid we use 230V here and it might be the high voltage or fluctuations in voltage that might have damaged it.

I guess I'll have to troll the internet cafes here looking for someone with a newer Dell laptop to let me try their charger.

    Thanks a lot. Commander Wolf
