I have ordered Dell Inspiron 1520 Notebook on 6.11.2007 and paid Rs. 42,650 through credit card on the same day. I was informed that the notebook will be delivered before 27.11.2007

I used to check the order status online. But the order status has not been updated since 8.11.2007. I enquired the concerened Sales Account Manager via email regarding my order status on 9th, 11th and 19th of this month. She has not responded to mail. I had called her over telephone four times. She has not given proper answer. Then, I have sent an email to DELL Sales Manager and he has also not responded.

On 26.11.07, I called the Customer care and enquired about my order. They informed that due to some money transaction problem the invoice is not ready and they are not sure about the delivery date.

I have sent a Fax to Mr. Ashish Kumar, Sales Manager, Dell India regarding the issue. I think he had thrown my fax in the dust bin. I tried by email, phone and FAX. Nobody cared. After getting money from customer, they are thinking he is rubbish. Really I feel frustrated; My experience with DELL India is very much frustrating. I am regretting for my order with DELL.

My humble request: PLEASE DON'T GO FOR DELL. People in Dell India are DEVILs. Even after knowing everything, if somebody orders, he has to go to the HELL.

Welcome to the club! :) Do one thing, when you receive the order, use it for 20 days, check out Windows Vista, the screen type and all, and then return it, for a full refund. Then watch them squander like hungry dogs, willing to bend over just so that you don't return it. They can't sell it back, you know.

Hmm buddy dont get too frustrated.... Such things happen with many large firms...... The best option is to wait.... You can ask DELL to compensate for this Delay by requesting some freebies as well as upgrade your OS or something of your choice..... And also while talking to those people dont just merely shout at them - but make them clear that you are really upset about this and will cancel your order if not delivered within time....

In most (all?) markets there is a 15-20% restocking fee for returning hardware, so this apporach may not make the most financial sense.

I was considering the XPS 1330, but having owned 4 DELL latops in the last 3-4 years, the experience had been bitter. So, when my company wants to buy a new laptop for me (as a christmas gift), I went in for a APPLE macBook Pro. And I got the delivery on the same day even before the Apple store had collected the cheque from my Manager. Now looking back, I am so glad, that I left out DELL. Just not worth the troubles.

I'm pretty sure thats only after the 21 day period...hence only keeping it for 20 days.

There is a full refund if you return before 30 days of getting your machine. Full refund. I said 20 days because DELL will delay the process to make you keep it, so it's better to have a lead time.

That does not apply to every computer in every country.

Rules are regulations are different country from country....

Vostro offers a 30 day return in US and some other places. But it does not offer a return on the Inspiron from what I am aware. Some people even have to PAY to ship the notebook back.

Are you sure there is a concept of refund or return in India? As far as I know most retailers have "No exchange or refund" written in bold letters on their invoices/receipts.

I believe Dell started its sales in India to cater to the software/support companies who buy computers in large quantities. I don't think they bother about individual customers. I could be wrong but that is the impression I got from my Indian colleagues.

I see many temporary Indian workers, who come to USA, buy Dell computers to take with them to India rather than buying it there in the first place. I checked up the configuration and cost and found them similar. Hmm! Something is going wrong in Dell India!

Not true in the US, unless something changed recently. Once you receive it, it's yours. Restocking fee applies.

If you are already dissatisfied, and you have not yet even received the product, you might want to consider canceling the order and disputing any charges on your card and taking your business elsewhere.

My Indian colleague told me that disputing charges on credit card in India takes such a long time that is far easier and simpler to settle with the merchant.

Thanx Bros! form all your support and concerns. In India the consumer laws are not strong. By taking advantage, these fellows are playing with customers. By legal process, it will take atlest a year or two to settle the matter. Just I posted the thread to share my agony.

That is so not true. The Consumer Court in India takes these retarded companies by throat and then chews them, and spit them out.

This is a personal experience. Airtel Broadband people were not helping me, sending me wrong bills, and not changing it, calling me at night to advertise and all. One fax from the consumer court, and everything stopped, I got a written apology, and I haven't received a bill since (don't know why).

My notebook was being delayed day after day, so I caught ahold of the DELL customer care manager, asked for his fax number and told him to stay at his bench to receive a fax from my lawyer (who is my uncle). He said it was not needed and asked for an hour to look into things. I got my laptop the next morning. It cleared the customs, it got it's bill generated, and it reached me within 16 hours. I was a wreck due to DELL.

Same with Vodafone and it's Do-not-Distrub service which didn't work. It worked like a charm after 2 or 3 calls.

Of course having a relative in the highest order of law (like in my case) helps speed up things, but don't hold back. If you feel like you're being ripped off and have a strong case, go to the law for help.

Yes Silas is right.... Private firms in India like these can easily be sued by law when they make blunders like these....

Exactly. I feel I have been compensated very nicely by Dell for the mistakes they made. Not only that, they made sure that I was happy by calling me up well after I had received my products.
Also, some of the freebies they were sending did not arrive in time (lol). So I told them that their "goodwill gestures", instead of generating goodwill, are turning out worse for them. And wrote a long mail and CCed it to most of the Customer Care heads.
The first thing next morning I got a call and told me that my stuff was coming in 2 days through special courier from Malaysia and they apologised profusely, and the guy even gave me his personal cell number, so that I could call him about this anytime 24/7.

The worst thing you can do is shout and abuse them. If you talk nicely to them, while being firm and telling them how genuinely disappointed you are (I was), they will know you are a serious customer. And they definitely go out of their way to please their customers!
