In all the reviews I've seen of the Studio 15/17, the 'DELL Dock' has been mentioned favorably. It is very similar to the Dock found in Mac OS X, which obviously served as the inspiration for DELL's version.
I've had my Studio 15 for a little over a week now and have toyed around with the Dock for a bit. I'm not sold on using it, though. I've always used the Quick Launch toolbar for starting common applications, switching from one app to another and I use the 'Show Desktop' button all the time. I also use Alt+Tab to switch between open windows and/or open applications.
My question is- Isn't the Dell Dock just a larger, "prettier" but redundant take on the Quick Launch toolbar? Anyone find the Dell Dock preferable to Quick Launch?
Just curious....regardless, Dell deserves some credit for trying to offer useful tools to its customers rather than tons of third-party crap like so many other companies!

I used the dock for a while but now I just use quick launch for pretty much everything. There is a download link at dell that allows anyone to download the dock but I don't know if they are planning on pre-installing it on other models.
Here is a pic of my fancy desktop lol. I'd rather just use quick launch then have a bunch of crap running in the background.Attached Files:

I like the Dell Doc, its very useful. In some aspects its quite intelligent. I installed MS Office and the shortcuts automatically showed up on the Dock, I didnt have to manually add them.
Have you guys tried a sidebar gadget called App Launcher? I find it really useful. You can drag and drop the shortcuts to applauncher. -

I tried both ObjectDock and RocketDock and went with RocketDock. -
Rocketdock is easily the best of all three of those. I keep it up top and set to show itself when the cursor is up top and it disappears after my cursor leaves that area. I set the taskbar to autohide and removed almost everything except for show desktop and solitaire. All icons are removed from my desktop. I spent a little bit of time finding various custom png icons, but it wasn't too difficult.
I also installed Stack Docklet for any folders to fan open so you can quickly browse the contents. I can't believe I just tried this out about a month ago. Should have been using it all along.

That looks sweet gonna try it out now. Thanks
EDIT: just noticed this on their site: Please note that Windows XP x64 Edition, Windows Vista 64-bit Editions, and alternate shells are not supported.
I'll try it anyway, maybe it can be emulated as a 32 bit app? If that even makes sense.... -
It is not supported for x64 Vista, but I hear it runs without any problems after doing a lot of research.
If my Studio ever gets here in the mail (hopefully tomorrow) I am throwing x64 Business Vista on right away and will test rocketdock first thing. -
I received my Studio 17 yesterday. Loaded x64 Vista Business and Rocketdock has been working flawlessly so far. Even the stacks docklet works without a problem.

I'vehad a problem with the stacks dockelt in that everyimt eI restar tmy computer, I have to set up the stack docklet again (icon and file path). Anyone else had similar problems?

- Take Ownership of the folders
- Turn off UAC
- Wait for an update to the Stacks Docklet
