Is the first partition that is available on the HDDs (The DELL Diagnostic Partition) really needed ? I heard it provides the same functionality as provided by the bootable Diagnostics CD - is it so ?

I m actually planning to install Linux on the laptop which is to arrive and want to create a dedicated boot partition for it that too as a primary partition.... So if I remove off that Diagnostic Partition then it would make my job much easier....

It is not necessary. As long as you're ready to do a clean install, then there's no need to keep the recovery partition.

I m not talking about the Recovery partition but the Diagnostics partition which is around 120 MB size or so.... And yeah I guess the Recovery partition is not needed and so I ll be deleting that one as well....

And I got one more doubt ? Will MediaDirect work as long as I dont touch the MediaDirect partition at all ?
