Had a issue today the laptop would not boot with battery, plug the AC in and it booted fine. Battery shows 93% charged..all is about 1 year old.

OK is it from sleep or suspend? Is it a complete start up?

XP has known issues with sleep and suspend on battery start up

The battery also has a smart technology that may be a problem

The video drivers, are they the most current?

XP pro is it SP2 or SP3?

is it still in warranty? but the problem is I think its the smart battery tech, so I think it may be the battery, if there is any way, try a mate's battery and see if it still happens.

Some have been able to get Dell to replace the battery, so, you can call them and try this, either way I think its the problem, it could also be the power board but the battery charges so I think its the smart tech problem

    call Dell tomorrow.

Charged it to 100%, ran a stress test and within 3 minutes warning popped up saying battery is low. Looks like a new battery is needed.
