    Hello Everyone,

I just got my DELL INSPIRON 1420. It came with bunch of CDS (I have to be honest and say I did not check them all yet) however there was a partion D created for me called "RECOVERY". Total partion size 9.99GIGS and about DVD size (4 GIGS) to burn. Since it was about a DVD size 4gigs so I naturally tried to burn it. But when it comes to burning it says it's just a bit too big for a DVD (About 300 megs or so). Anyone had a similar issue?

Is it perhaps that windows vista burning thing that causes this? I have to say, its kind of annoying. Anyone was able to disable it? I tried with the registry edit tricks I found on the net, but its still there.

I used these two but I still see the "Burn" icon.

You don't burn a recovery partition using Vista's built in burner. If Dell did not include recovery discs in the package, then there's a dedicated program on you computer that you need to use to burn the discs.

So if they did include those discs, then why is there an extra partion?

To save you time and effort and more importantly to save them time and effort. They can just tell you to boot to recovery part and hit restore rather than explaining how to install each CD one at a time to restore.

If you want to back it up I suggest you use an imaging tool. I have never tried to use ImageX to make an image of a non OS partition so I can't tell you if that will work. It is free to use though from MS and it can contain multiple images with "de-duplication" technology that will only keep one copy of a file if it exists in multiple images so thats cool and space saving.

Alternatively you can use a demo of ghost or acronis or something and make an image of your 9.99GB partition that will usually compress about 50% of space consumed. Having said that though, my dell came with an imageX image on my recovery partition and thats not going to compress so hot. It will hopefully get it small enough to burn though ;)
