If I have 1 gig of ram ...512x2 slots then I always assumed you should change both at the same time. Is this the best and "only" option or can you add a 1gig stick to the 512...leaving one intact and having it work correctly?

If upgrading and wanting to replace both with (2) 1 gig sticks ,then which would be the best to buy and is it a complicated procedure involving alot more than I would think [?][?][?]

Easy detailed beginners suggestions needed. talk to me like I know nothing, please?

    Thanks,

i no 4 a fact taht transcend works on the 9300...if u go 2 the dell service manual...sumwhere on their site...i found it b4...well anyway...if u go there...it shows u how 2 add memory manually..and if u cant find it or its hard...then go 2 like crucial.com...and find out how 2 do it there or google 4 it...hope that helps

I hear what you are saying but I don'tknow if It's Ok to only change one and not both. I know you are telling me where to go and what memory I need . That I know. crucial is excellent. I can find out from Dell too. I don't trust Dell.

I need to know if both have to be changed instead of keeping one 512 and 1gig. I don't know if that is going to cause problems.

I've been told both need /should be changed at the same time....then I guess I would need to now what size fits in.There are different pins or I forget them name of what I'm talking about.

You don't have a 9300 yet. I would need someone that has one and can explain more.

    I can't do this......

Thank you but I'm ending the topic. PLease no need for anyone to post. I will figure it out.

PLEASE END OF TOPIC!!! NO MORE POSTS UNLESS YOU WANT TO CONTINUE FOR EACH OTHER. I"M DONE AND I COULD DELETE IT BUT MAYBE YOU"LL ALL POST TO EACH OTHER. I'm UNSUBSCRIBED AND ALL SET !

    THANK YOU !!

I'VE GOT IT ALL FIGURED OUT NOW SO AGAIN NO POSTS TO ME,PLEASE. I'M ALL SET AND HAVE MY ANSWERS .............

2 gigs isn't a whole lot better then 1.5 gigs... The drop off for returns is steep... Ie from 256 to 1 gig you see a noticable difference but from 1.5 to 2 you won't see much of a difference UNLESS you are doing alot of encoding, decoding, multi tasking, rendering, and high intenesive program usuage... I mean for the cost of 1 gig from dell you can buy 2 gigs outside... It's worth it to get outside ram unless you re buying the really expensive stuff...

you cna have 1.5 gigs of ram it just won't be dual channel since for dual channel to work you need identical ram chips. I think that there is only a significant increase in performance if you get 533 mhz dual channel.. If you have 400 mhz chips its not that big of a difference between dual and single channel...

Also if you get a 533 mhz 1 gig ram and use a 400 mhz ram chip the 533 mhz will run at 400 mhz...
