Hi,
I have a Dell Inspiron 6000D currently running DDR2-400 512 (2*256mb). I want to upgrade to DDR2-533 (PC4200) 1GB stick (1*1 GB). Fry's is having a sale on PC5400 DDR2 1GB (1*1GB) stick and I was wondering if I could use the latter, even though my laptop doesn't go that fast. Would there be any problems with it? The PC5400 stick is an OCZ brand.
Thanks

PC5400 is 667MHz - the highest your laptop will take is DDR2-533, or PC4200.
Check Newegg.com, here is a list of 1GB 533MHz sticks:

That means I cannot use the 667 stick in my computer and have it run at 533?

$65...i just want something around that price.purhcased in store...but can't relaly find any places so far....oh well...it seeems they're selling the PC5400 a lot more now than the PC4200.

I'm looking at some G.SKILL 1G 667 sticks (newegg) for my 6000D and might go ahead with it. The price is right and the 667 will have a longer life per dollar should I replace the 6000D some day.
Crucial.com has 667 as applicable for the 6000, I don't see why not for the G.SKILL. -

I would go with DDR2-533 (PC4200) if you have an i6000D. G.SKILL is actually good memory.

Just chatted with NewEgg and they will allow me to "try" the 667. If not, I get a refund and buy slower ram. The standard 15% restocking fee will be waived if my replacement purchase is the same $$$ or higher. Not much to lose except a a little time should it not work out.
I'll report back one way or the other. -
Thanks. I think I'll "play it safe"..and buy whatever Fry's has in store....or whatever newegg has in DDR2 533.

Hmm, newegg has 2 types of 667 mhz DDR2 RAM, PC 5300 and PC 5400... what's the difference?

I have my G.Skill 1Gx2 in now. Memory downclocked fine from 667 to 533.
Now I have memory that I can take with me to my next laptop.
*BTW, $153 out the door from NewEgg. -

CAS isn't going to make a difference in Dell notebooks, as the BIOS has the timings locked.
DDR2 Memory PC4200 v PC5400
