    Hey

I'm looking at the Dell D830 but really want a remote control for music etc, can I use one with this machine? Maybe bluetooth? Any ideas?

Next, any comments about the difference between the standard screen and the upgrade to the WSxga+, good bad etc. I take it all screen options with the D830 are non glossy..is this correct?

    Thanks

Hey Mark! Sorry for the long response.

You can order an Interlink Electronics Express Remote Control (Bluetooth) when you order your D830. I got one with mine and it works like a charm. The only thing I don't like, however, is that you can't fully control DVDs. There's no dedicated button to go to the menu, so I end up having to use my wireless mouse or walk up to it and use the trackpad to get back to the menu.

Otherwise, it works great in Vista Media Center! Hope this helped!

Supposedly, the major differences are brightness. The lower you go in resolution, the brighter the screen can get. The WXGA, I believe, is rated at about 240nits (I'm not sure, though - you'll have to check the spec sheet.) I got the WUXGA (1920x1200) and brightness is a bit of an issue for me. It's supposedly 220 nits but it feels a lot dimmer than competing screens (i.e., Toshiba's and even Lenovo's).

Oh, and yes, all Latitude screens are matte. There's no option for True Life (glossy).

Yeah; the WUXGA on the D830 isn't usable on anything but the highest brightness setting, unless you are in the dark.

Otherwise its a beautiful screen. Maybe a future version will use LED illumination so that power dissipation on the screen isn't as much of an issue.

If you have a BT cellphone, you may use it as a remote control with some freeware.
