I am getting my first notebook, a D820, to replace my desktop computer. I currently leave my desktop running whenever I am at home because I am in and out so often and it takes forever to boot. Sometimes it is on for a day or two at a time. I am guessing that with a notebook that you don't want to do this, or am I wrong. How long does it take a D820 to boot?

the only real way to find out is to boot and restart it and find out, that's probably how you found out about your desktop???

I won't hurt it to leave it on.

i leave my notebook on about 90% of the time. the only times it's off is when i'm in the car going someplace.
as long as you keep it cool/good airflow/dust-free, you'll have no problems -
If you don't give a **** about global warming then leave it on all the time, but is 40ish seconds really that long to wait?!

I found the hibernate settings and that does the trick for me. Best of both worlds.
