I've just received my D820 a week ago and I am experiencing some erratic behaviour with the track stick. I am wondering if anyone has similar experience?

I have the touchpad and the buttons beneath it disabled. I also disabled the tapping function of the track stick.

After using it for a while the mouse pointer will all of a sudden stuck for a few seconds and then it will move again. It is especially obvious when I click and hold the left button and try to move the mouse pointer.

Also, sometime it will automatically click a button or something that’s clickable for me while my thumb wasn’t even on the left button. Note that I already have the tapping function turned off. This is very annoying because sometime when a new web page is opening and if the cursor happens to be on an ad link, it will automatically click the ad link.

Lastly, and the most bizarre behaviour is sometime the left button wouldn’t work. The cursor will move and the right button will bring up the menu, but the left button just won’t do anything. It wouldn’t switch between windows when I click, and the taskbar wouldn’t come up when the cursor move to the bottom of the screen.

I am not sure if my observation is correct, but it seems that everything works fine when I first boot the machine up. After a while (1 – 2 hours) these strange behaviours will show up for a while and then it seems to be fine again.

I tried to look for driver update on the driver screen but it said I have the latest one already.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Oh! Forgot to mention that I don't have the fingerprint reader. Just the standard touchpad/track Stick.

    Thanks.

I'd give technical support a call. It sounds like the trackstick is malfunctioning.

I have an 820 and occasionally have similar issues. I have disabled the touch pad and only use it for scrolling and also disabled the tap.

The things I have seen are:

-cursor freezes for a second or two, usually from a stationary position, not in the middle of moving.

-wandering cursor, moves on it's own as if I were pressing the touch stick. No idea what causes or cures it, just seems to start and stop on its own.

-unwanted clicks as you describe above.

All of these have decreased in frequency over the month or so I have had the notebook. The clicking behavior hasn't hapened in at least a week. Perhaps it is part of the break in process?

I'm experiencing the exact same problem with my new D820 that I got on Tuesday. It will freeze up momentary (mine from the stationary position as well) but more annoyingly is the wandering cursor.

It goes away with the track stick disabled, so I've definately narrowed it down to that, and doesnt happen that often, it more erratic. Happened some when I got it, none yesterday and today until this evening.

Going to give dell a shout about it, see if they know how to fix it. I hope I don't have to get it replaced, but then again, I'd like it to work.

for the touchpad buttons, you could try reinstalling the synaptics touch pad drivers.

Dell usually supply a spare track stick which you can simply pop on. That's what I did when I had a similar problem and it ended the headache.

you might wanna go the mouse settings and under area switch section and disable inertial movement.. my touchpad had problems with that enabled after using it for around 10 mins. once it was disabled there wasnt any problem..

    hope that helps!
