So I've got a D620 with the WXGA+ screen, which I find disappointing. Any of the problems with this display individually would be no big deal, but all together, they leave me disappointed. I went through all the troubleshooting steps, and even had the screen replaced, but to no avail.

Anyway, I love the computer except for the display, so I'm thinking of returning it and upgrading to a D820. I haven't heard of any problems with the D820 displays, but I wanted some input from current owners. I'm thinking of getting one with a WSXGA+ display.

    1) Is the vertical viewing angle decent? With the D620 I have to either sit very still, or sit so far back that my arms are fully extended.

    2) Any problems with graininess? For about a week, I thought that the images I was looking at on my D620 display just had odd compression artifacts until I looked at the same images on my desktop LCD.

    3) Shimmering/flashing problems? I visit mini-itx.com on occasion, and on the D620, the background looks like it's flashing rapidly.

I'd really appreciate any input from current D820 owners.

I got the D620 last year and I had to return mine. It was wash out and very hard to see! So I return mine 45 days later!

You are still having the same problem with the D620? I thought its the new batch of LCD now.

I think all the 14" WXGA+ screens are still screwed up.

My girlfriend has the D820, and it's about the same excellent quality of my nc8430 screen...only a little brighter.
    1) Vertical angles were pretty good (I usually would be standing up looking at her screen on the desk) though I don't have any pics or measurements.
    2) I'm not too sure about the graininess, but I've used her notebook a few times and didn't see anything odd about it.
    3) Well, the screen is bright...but doesn't shimmer. I don't have the laptop on me, let alone can go to that website, so someone else will have to answer that one.

Hello. I've had the 820 for 2 months now and the screen is by far better than many other laptops. It's the WSXGA+ version with 1680x1050 . The vertical angles are not so good, but still acceptable. The horizontal ones are good. Brightness is great but at maximum eats the battery like hell. In what concerns the graininess, well it does have some issues with images on certain webpages, especially on banners and webpage buttons with text on them, but is nothing to worry about. If you look at photos taken with a 5 megapixels digital camera, they look great.

I had a D620 and a D820 and honestly could not tell the difference between the two. In fact, I just took the D820 off the shelf the other day (I still use it for certain purposes) and after using a Macbook Pro for the last few months was shocked at how bad the screen was.

The only thing that makes it look better than the D620 is the size of the LCD. It's still grainy and looks washed out.

Keep in mind that I bought one of the early ones when they first came out last year. I'm not sure if the current ones have an upgraded LCD or new MFG.

I don't think I would give it another chance; especially, if it just means returning it when I find it really hasn't changed.
