So, I ordered a new D820 the day they were released, and for now my order is still in pre-production but I expect (hope) that it will move into kitting at any minute.
Does anyone know if they work on nights and/or weekends at the factory in Malaysia (which is where I assume they will be building my laptop), or if the system is still in pre-production now (Friday afternoon EST) there is no chance of that changing before Monday.
Thanks,
David

Well, according to the Dell reps, the site is only updated once every 24-72 hours. Which kind of stinks. I don't think the work over the weekends, I can't remember...they might though.
I would just check on Monday...if it doesn't move, call Dell. If it does, hopefully it will be in kitting stage. -
OK, I will check with them on Monday.
The definately update more often than every 24 hours though, because my last order changed 4 times during the day that it was in production as it went from kitting through assembly, etc. -
I've had to call for a tracking number on my last 3 purchases because they never update the web.

I use to work in Small Business sales @ Dell....they will work over on the weekends at times...but not always. Whenever they are near the end of the quarter, YES (to get as much revenue and profit OUT OF THE DOOR). So, you just never know. But I would say there is a 80% chance that there will be some movement of ur system this weekend. Hope I was helpful - good luck.

that made me laugh, "do they work nights weekends in Malaysia". Well they do at times I'm sure or they'd never fulfill all of their orders. Not to dampen your spirits, but last time I ordered something that was brand new from Dell it did get delayed by about a week, sometimes with new orders there are hiccups on the production line. Fingers crossed that's not the case for you.

One thing about the latitudes is that they were just released a few days ago, so I'm sure there were several orders for that laptop (generally happens with new releases) and it is back ordered. It could also be the possibility that eventhough you were able to order it, doesn't mean that it is going to start being built the next day. There are a lot of things that affect Pre-Production. For one, your credit card has to authorize the purchase. If Dell is short on parts, then they have to wait for those to get in, etc.
I noticed with the 9300 and a couple of other laptops that it took a good 3-4 weeks after the release before it was being shipped.
