    Hi guys!

    I have decided that most likely I will get a D800 or a i8600 from ebay. The reason being that its a cheaper option than getting a newer laptop and also these laptops fit my specification requirements:

    1) WSXGA+ 15.4" LCD
    2) P-M
    3) nVidia Graphics
    D800 = gf4 ti4200 (32/64mb), fx 5200 (32/64mb), fx 5650 (128mb)
    i8600 = fx 5200 (64mb), fx 5650 (128Mb)
    3) Accessories/batteries easily found due to popularity
    4) Nice build.
    5) Price (Less than $1000USD)

    Anyways. I am wondering which of these two laptops are better? I am looking for the laptops with the fx 5650 128Mb video cards. Since I am a very casual gamer that will be mor ethan enough.

    Are there issues with the D800 or i8600 that would cause me to reconsider/choose the other??

    Please guys from the Dell Forums, I need advice.

    I think both where pretty great laptops..
    If you want a little more ruggedness go with the D800

    Thanks.

    But what I meant to ask for was have there ever been battery issues, usb probs etc for any off these problems.

    those models are from two refreshes ago. they're quite old.

    unless i was spending around 200-250 bux, i wouldn't buy 'em. if you're spending more then 500 or 600 bux, you should just buy a new computer.

    I dont think thats what they are valued at.
    They are still pretty decent notebooks, even if they are used. For 500-600bucks there is no way I can get my specs (posted in OP).

    For those specs, there are very few laptops out there. However since I will be purchasing towards the end of summer, there might be something better out there with the turion X2 and an nvidia card.

    Also those laptops fit nicely into my current budget of $1k. This might change when I start working this summer.

    1K can buy you a lot of computer now. but if you're married to the 800/8600, then i bid you good luck.

    If you can find me a laptop with the following specs

    Nvidia Graphics (geforce not quadro)
    Pentium-M / Turion (doubt you would get turion w/ nvidia)
    WSXGA+/SXGA+/WXGA+ LCD

    Under $1k USD, I would be amazed. Even up to $1200 MAX.

    Because I am a linux user. And everyone knows that ATi drivers are horrible in linux.

    Its hard isnt it to find a laptop with those specs under $1k huh?
    Hell even if didnt get the large LCD, its hard.

    to quote Arrested Development... "oh, there it is"

    i think you're in the wrong thread, you'll probably get a lot more answers in the "What Should I Buy" Thread. post here or PM me if you want me to move this there.

    Well actually this thread did start out with me just asking for suggestions towards either of the Dell laptops.

    So it would probably make more sense to leave it here. Thanks for the offer to move it though.

    From what I have read, the D800 is better build quality and has 2 more USB 2.0 Ports. It however isnt so readily available with the fx go5650.
