Low noise is a priority for the D630 I have almost decided to order. Reading the reviews, the D630 seems to be pretty silent and cool with 5400 rpm drives and chipset graphics. But what about the faster drives and the Nividia graphics? I would be interested to hear from D630 owners:

    • Which particular hard drive models are used in the D630 for the 160GB 7200RPM, the 120GB 7200RPM, and the 120GB 5400RPM options respectively?
    • How much noise and heat are generated by these three different drive options (160/7200, 120/7200, 120/5400)? - Not sure if anybody was able to do a side-by-side comparison, but any subjective impression would be welcome.
    • Any evidence on actual performance differences with the 7200RPM options - are these worth a possible noise/heat penalty?
    • What about noise and heat with the Nvidia NVS 135M graphics, as compared to the chipset (Intel X3100) graphics - what are the actual experiences here?

    Thanks a lot to everybody!

    Andrew--

I just got my D630 about a week ago. It has an 80gb 7200 RPM drive and the Nvidia NVS 135M graphics. It's very quiet. I haven't noticed any harddrive noise at all. It does get a little warm when I have it sitting on my lap, but I not really uncomfortably so.

    Hope this helps--
    dordale :)

Thank you, dordale, this is helpful indeed.

Anybody else who can chime in here? There seem to be quite a few D630 owners around by now. What's the experience especially with the larger 7200 rpm disks (120 or 160 GB) and the Nvidia card on a D630 in terms of heat and noise?

Even though my 135m is broken, it is quiet. hopefully the replacement will be too. my hard drive is 5400 and it is the quietest laptop I have ever used.
