I have a D630 running Vista and Office 2007. I notice that when I try to open powerpoint and word 2007, the machine makes very loud noises (from the fan perhaps) for about 1 minute when opening the programs.

I searched microsoft and couldn't find an official fix for this problem. Is anyone familiar with why this may be happening? I assume it's a problem with office, but there should be a workaround. I'm getting looks while in class!!

sounds like a lack of memory thing to me. Maybe you should upgrade the memory to at least 2 gb?

    check your temps

CPU might be overheating (and your system, even if new, might have a badly seated heatsink)
