Does anyone know if the new Intel Turbo Memory card can be installed in the D630? Has anyone done this yet, is it a similar process to upgrading ram or what? Found the card on amazon for $27 and sounds like it gives pretty good perfomace boost.

As far as i know, the current turbomemory cards fit into a mini pci card slot, so theoretically, yes you can. im not sure of the details of how it works, but you should read up on some of the reviews... some people like it, and some dont. If you already have a fair amount of ram (2gb) you wont need any sort of turbomemory, it doesnt boost it that much. you can get a similar increase just by using the ready boost function in vista. my 2 cents: read up on it, and see if its really what you want before you opt in for it.

Yea I read some reviews that went both ways, I'm gonna have 2gb but the turbo memory sounds like it would be helpful in other ways than just the mem, media apps etc.

yeah quicker boot times are nice. a good alternative to the turbomemory is just using a pcmcia sd reader for a 1gig SD card. Granted, it doesnt support the ReadyDrive...i'm still on the fence about what to do with this, but it seems like a semi-cheap option...if i can find conclusive proof that it doesnt slow down the computer, then i'll be willing to pay the 27 bucks to use it. I'm paying for the SantaRosa chipset, might as well play with its features.

According to the d830 and d630 service manuals there is a slot for turbomemory cards (unfortunately its the same slot as the WWAN card, but lucky for me i dont have one). Supposedly it should be a plug and play option... and amazon has a good deal on these cards right now... i'm considering ordering one... i think i may start a poll...

can someone just verify that there isnt already a turbomemory card preinstalled on the d630 or d830. i doubt it, but just in case...

I do not think any laptop can have both a turbomemory card and a WWAN card. The Thinkpad T61 and R61 can only have one or the other.

EDIT:Wait. The R61 does not have a WWAN option.
