After reading the many threads about D620 getting HOT in the center of the bottom, I am wondering if it is the same with the E1405. I really want to use the notebook on my lap but from what I've understood from D620 users, it is almost impossible, unless you want to *burn your skin*. Can any E1405 user confirm that it runs cooler when using on their lap for a good period of time. Or maybe high temps are a common thing for all 14.1" notebooks?

My wife's e1405 runs cool all the time. She used it on her lap for about a half hour last night with no problems at all. This is after it had been on for at least another hour and a half.

Thanks onedeep, so I guess it runs a lot cooler than the d620. Also have you or your wife noticed any heat coming from the bottom center after several hours of use, how about left palm rest spot? The fact that nobody has mentioned any heat issues yet, shows that probably there aren't. Or that's maybe because the main problem of this notebook is the screen and nobody notices the heat yet, who knows. I just saw a post where a guy said that it runs much cooler than the XPS M140, so I guess that is good enough.

It is definitely cool, relative to other books I have dealt with. I will try it out tonight after it has been on for a little while. I have about 6GB of data I need to move from my wife's other book to this one. So that should rev up the hard drive some.

If you get a dedicated GPU with D620, it will run hotter than E1405.

Definately agree that the E1405 runs much cooler than the M140 (630m), barely warm on the palm rest and mildly warm underneath in the middle where the RAM lives, if they put vents on the RAM cover, it would probably run even cooler.

The core temperature of the D620 runs lower with dedicated GPU by about 5-10 degrees. The HD runs about 40 degrees celcius. I will check the perceived temperature of the 1405 compared to mine.

Well titaniummd , almost all D620 users are stating that there is pure hot spot at the bottom center of the notebook and that it is very uncomfortable, so bad that you can't even hold it in your lap after a while. Do you have the same issues with your notebook as well? Also isn't the dedicated gpu supposed to increase the temps of the notebook?

As long as the notebook is straddling onto your thighs and the center is not touching them, you don't feel the heat. There is no heat under the wrists. After comparing to three colleagues with the 1405, the temperature feels subjectively similar. I AM heat intolerant. If it's not cold, it's too hot for me. I typically use a wooden lap desk anyway.

Checking the temp of the processor and HD, with the GPU, the processor temperature is lower than that with Intel's GMA 950.

This may be true since the 1405 is thicker and heat is dissipated better. The undercarriage of the D620 won't 'burn' but it is uncomfortable for me.

The warmth of the palm rest of the D620 is barely perceptible.

Actively using the PC but the temps currently are below:
    GPU core temp: 52 C
    CPU: 34.5 C
    HD 40 C
