I have narrowed it down to two laptops.

PortableOne MX. I have chosen this for its size, weight, performance, video card and customer service.

The other is the D620. I also like the size, weight, performance (I only game a little), price and customer service through my school's dell premier account.

The only thing holding me back from the Dell D620 is the screen quality. I have heard good and bad things about it. In the owner's honest opinion can I get what they think about the screen and if they could do it all over again, would they buy the laptop. If the screen is at least average and is easily improved by changing settings I will purchase the D620. Otherwise it will be the MX.

I've had the chance to handle two different D620s in the last few weeks, one with a Samsung WXGA screen, the other with a Samsung WXGA+. Both had the dedicated graphics card, for what that's worth.

The WXGA didn't impress me at all - it looked almost as if it was set to a non-native resolution: somewhat blurred and with a lot of sparkle, and I couldn't adjust the colors quite to my liking. The other screen, however, is gorgeous - sharp and clear and bright. I also much prefer the higher resolution, though that's a personal thing.

    Just my personal experience...

I received my D620 with the LG screen and dedicated graphics. Not knowing what else was out there I was very happy. However, after seeing the WXGA+ Samsung with the NVIDIA, I was extremely happy. Three different manufacturers make the screen.

From what I read the LG appears to be the worst for screen angles and leakage. AUO also makes the screen which I have read is grainy.

I ordered mine on June 12th and it's already shipped today June 15th. I plan to check the screen and if it's a LG screen I will try and have it replaced hopefully with a Samsung screen.

Got mine yesterday, very happy yet. I have the quadro and WXGA+. I went and change to the WXGA resolution, i beleive it is 1280x800 and without a doubt the WXGA+ is a must (1440x900). I makes the carater a bit small, but still very fine for want i want to do. Also i got the port replicator (the biggest one) and i have it hooked up to two 19" LCD and use them has a extend desktop, and it work fine. I haven't played with the nview from nvidia yet.

I am very happy, the only comment i would have is it comes hot if you often use it on you legs. but nothing impossible to endure,.

How can i check my lcd Brand?

go to www.support.dell.com, enter in your service tag number which can be found on the bottom of the noteboook, and select the option for origional configuration then submit

I have an LG screen. It's not so bad but hearing how much better the Samsung screen is I'm going to bother tech support.

I have a Samsung screen and I'm still disappointed by the viewing angles and shimmer. :(

I'm going to try to return it for refund.

Here's a break down of the differences between the MX and and D620m

    MX
    -Better GPU
    -Better Quality screen
    -Card Reader
    -Customer Support

    D620
    -Dual pointing devices
    -Security card reader
    -Finder print reader
    -Higher resolusion screen
    -Keyboard layout
    -Cheaper

    What they have in common
    -Good build
    -Both Thin and lights

    Notes:
-I urge you to visit the Asus forum and search for information on the A8jm which the MX is built off of. It's screen recieves lots or praise. However high resolution 14.1" screens are rare and the D620 is one of the few that has this. You can get a screen for outdoor use on the MX though it's pricy.
-The Fn and Ctrl keys are switched on the MX.
-PortableOne's service will probably own even a Premier Dell account.

    I hope this helps. =)

    Peace Out! -Niki

Really? I like this laptop even with the LG screen. Yes. There's a shimmer to it but it doesn't bother me. It's bright enough. But after hearing how the Samsung screen is supposedly the best on this laptop I called Dell to have it replaced. The tech I spoke with said that they only use one screen, an LG, for the WXGA+ screen. I told him to send a replacement anyway hopefully he's wrong and I'll get a Samsung but if it's not a Samsung I'll stick with this screen. The only thing that bothers me about this laptop is it gets a little hot on the left bottom side.

    I have a samsung
JC269 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 14.1WXGA+, VIDEO ELEC. STDS. ASSOC., SAMSUNG

I would say ti is a inconvenient of the laptop but IMHO, still very useable and not a reason to return it. But a cons for this laptop.

I just got my screen replaced with a Samsung. I'm liking it. The service was great. I called yesterday for a replacement and got a replacement today. Did anyone notice that the buttons snap off easier than older models?
