As above ive got a pentium M 750 1.6GHZ i can swap with with my core duo cpu which is clocked at 1.86Ghz

im wondering if this is possible as they are different architectures etc and dont know if its pin compatible for a start nevermind motherboard and bios compatibility issues

anyone know of any joy of pinmodding the d620 of any other kind if its not possible with a pentium m 750

No you cannot use any core cpus in your machine. They are a completely different socket and chipset, so they will not work at all.

And no, you cannot pinmod a PM 750. The whole idea of pinmodding is to take a 400MHz bus cpu and make it run at 533MHz bus. You already have the 533MHz cpu, so you can't do anything.

emm my d620 already has a core duo processor in it !

im well aware of what the pinmod purpose is as i have done it a couple of years ago with my inspiron 6000 and i know all about overclocking what i was asking is were they pin compatible and if by a remote chance it was would it be chipset and bios compatible

and the fact its a different chipset means nothing as it was different chipset that allowed the first pin mods because we could buy a different cpu from the chipset we had and mod it and have our overclock !

if the core chipset contained the same backwards compatability that the older chipsets did

plus if i remember right all that was required on the very first dual core chips was a bios update

since i havent kept track of the constant socket revisions etc i dont know what my core duo socket is , whether its a ball grid array cpu or older pin and socket style hence my question

if not can i perhaps use a newer core2 cpu to overclock in this machine

and how do you know i have a 533 bus? i think youl find the d620 supports more bus speeds than that as mine is a 667 (166fsb) cpu.

I thought u were asking if you could put a core duo in a PM notebook. Not the other way around.

And yes, you can put in a core 2 duo cpu in there, but it has to be the 667MHz bus ones, aka 7200, 7400, 7600 etc. The newer 800MHz c2d cpus (7100, 7300, 7500, 7700) will not fit.

Just to be clear here...the PM and CD processors cannot be swapped between the two.

thought that would be my luck might get a cheap core 2 and upgrade, would be a more compelling thought if i could overclock it as i do like to fix things that aint broken or keep fixing it till it is!

only to tide me over till a laptop comes out with all the bells and whistles i want in one package
