A couple of dumb questions.........what is "wifi?" What is it short for, and what does it do?

What is the infrared thing for on the left side? How does it work? What are it's uses?

    Thanks.

Wifi stands for Wireless Fidelity. It is for hooking a laptop/PC to a network wirelessly. Infared isn't used much anymore. It is also for hooking devices to a PC/Laptop wirelesslly like a printer.

I used to use infrared to sync my PDA, that's pretty old school though, most notebooks are dropping IR because it's not used and a largely un-needed expense.
