The ULV Duo Core D420 just came out, and I am having a hard time deciding between D420 and M1210 ...

I've been waiting from M1210 w/ a Merom for a while. And now the ULV version of Core Duo came out ...

What's more, D420 is on a $260 instant rebate right now! (So their price is pretty much the same right now!)

Can you share your opinion about these two machines?

    Basically, IMO:
    1. M1210 can be configured with a much better graphics card! (Also can upgrade to Merom if I want 64 bit later)

    2. D420 is much thinner and lighter, and does not have a built-in optical drive. (ULV CPU is soldered in order for the NB to be thin.)

Does anyone know about their build quality, battery life etc.?

    Thanks,

Hey Percy, I'm the exact same boat as you. As I understand the Latitude will be the better build, also thinner/lighter (almost by 1.5 pounds). I guess if you do not require and optical drive or gaming capabilities the D420 would be the way to go to optimize battery life. If you plan on playing games at all then the XPS1210 would be the way to go.

This is what I have come down to in my arguments with myself, hope it can help you too.

You guys have to decide it yourself, what do you actually need:
performance and upgradeability or super-mobility and battery life.

The choice is the same as between i700m and latitude x1 one or two years ago.
