With the new E series on the horizon, perhaps this is the D series’ swan song.

Just a short write up and pictures of the existing Dx20/Dx30 together for those who are interested in picking up one either used or from the outlet shop.

    Specifications

    D420
    U2500, 1.5gb DDR2, 60Gb HDD, MediaBase, 12” 1280x800

    D630
    T7300, 2.0gb DDR2, 80Gb HDD, X3100, 14.1” 1280x800

    D820
    T2140, 2.0gb DDR2, 80Gb HDD, NVS 210, 15.4” 1920x1200 Ultrasharp

    XPS M1330
    T7100, 2.0gb DDR2, 120Gb HDD, 8400GS, 13.3” LED 1280x800

    Display Performance

In terms of colour reproduction, the D820’s Ultrasharp render colours the most vibrant and accurate, beating out the LED XPS due to its slightly bluish tint on default setting (which can be adjusted). Resolution on the 1920x1200 panel can be tiring on prolonged use. In terms on brightness and viewing angle, the LED equipped XPS leads the way followed by the D820, D630 and the D420.

    Weights

    D420
    1.5Kg (3.30lbs) with 6 Cell Battery
    2.1Kg (4.62lbs) with MediaBase + 6 Cell Battery

    D630
2.4Kg (5.28lbs) with 6 Cell and DVDRW drive
2.6Kg (5.72lbs) with 9 Cell and DVDRW drive
2.8Kg (6.16lbs) with 9 Cell and 6 Cell Modular Battery

    D820
    3.0Kg (6.60lbs) with 9 Cell Battery

    M1330
    2.1Kg (3.30lbs) with 9 Cell Battery
I don’t have a 6 cell for the M1330. But i figure it just just be around 1.95kg - slightly more than the published weight of 1.89kg with the 3 cell

I have a D520 as well, but I doubt anyone would be interested in that old clunker....My desk isn't big enough for the family shot.

D630 with optional 9 cell and 6 Cell lithium polymer battery

This combo is the only setup that can last my flight from Asia to Europe, with a 13hour runtime (wireless off, screen at 1/3 brights doing normal office stuff....some MP3 and a movie)

    Standard Dell chargers. L -> R, 90W, 65W, 65W XPS charger

    90W 0.55Kg (1.21lbs) . Also used on the D-DOCK.
    65W 0.4kg (0.88lbs)

Both the standard 65W and the XPS charger weighs in the same, the XPS is more compact but having longer leads. This is the UK style plug, standard North American or European PSUs will weight in a few grams less.

I regret not having the compact travel charger with me to make comparisons. Its flatter but wider, and weighs in slightly less, but the leads can sometimes be inconviniently short.
