You just take out the optical drive and put in the modular bay battery in it's place. The optical drive should be considered a removable device (like when u plug in a USB key).

The latch system is pretty simple, you press in and the latch pops out and then you just pull it to slide whatever is occupying the bay out.

The amount of battery life increase will be slightly less than the primary 6-cell battery since those are slightly higher capacity (53 or 56Wh).

Thanks very much for your help.

So in other words its the 6 cell by 2?

I am trying to decide between a 6 or 9 cell battery but if this item can add extra life then I think the 6 cell will be sufficent. Would others agree? My reason for not going with the 9 cell is its extra weight.

From another threat posted by lazybum131:

    Weight:
    9-cell lithium-ion battery - 0.485 kg (1.07 lb) typical
    6-cell lithium-ion battery - 0.355 kg (0.783 lb) typical

I suppose I would not find much difference in the weight, would I?? The Latitude D820 is currently 2.8kg.
