Hello everyone,
I'm new to these forums but not the site. Been coming here for the last few months. I purchased a new dell XPS M1330 about a month ago. The system had a problem where in MS Office Word the key inputs would lag or respond inaccurately. I would go as far as to call it a lag between when a key is pushed and the type appears. Essentially, it wasn't fluid on the screen. It felt like something was clogging the system up. I sent this XPS back to dell and ordered a new one. I should also point out that there was no spyware or adware etc on the machine (typical what can cause an issue like this).
I received the new one and it worked fine. I did ALL the updates and installed some software. I then noticed the problem happening again. I thought it may have been some of the software i installed so I uninstalled all of that and still had the same problem. I looked at the registry and then eventually took a look in msconfig at the startup programs. I went through every single problem to see what may have been causing it. This took hours to complete. Eventually I reformatted the machine and soon realized the problem was Cyberlink Power DVD. The initial version that comes preloaded with the machine is fine. The problem is a bug in the software update. The software is updated (with your permission) when you're under the Dell Media center.
Conclusion is that until Dell fixes this bug I do not recommend updating Dell's Media center. The problem was severe enough in Word that I was unable to type documents for work. I'm running my machine right now without the update and everything is working perfectly. Just thought I'd share this discovery and hopefully save people the hassle.
P.S. (not related to this really) If you asked Dell during the time of your Dell XPS 1330 order to install Windows XP they'll do it. I did not even know this. Did anyone know this was even an option? They say it's a "special-request" and must be done on the phone.

Actually all you had to do was to go into the startup and disable the resident memory driver for Dell media direct. This problem has been around for a while now and the solution is simple fix.
disable "PCMService" from startup. All Fixed
Did you try to google the problem?? Would have saved you sending back a perfectly good system.
Or should have posted here, you would have got your answer. -
I have exactly the same problem in my Vostro 1400 lately. I am going to try diabling that PCMservice. Thanks.

Jimmy, I do not see that startup service under msconfig (PCMService). The only one there is the cyberlink one. I have that disabled now and it works fine.
Also as an update it's not just the patch, it's cyberlink in general causing issues. It runs the powerdvd application. What can I do to fix this so I can still use my DVD player in Dell Media? -
Well all it should do is stop the program running automatically when the media is inserted. Turning it off from startup will not stop the program working. Or shouldn't.
-
is this the same as Cyberlink powerCinema?
-
All I know, is that disabling "PCMService" from startup fixed the issue. Maybe in later models that memory resident program is called something else.
Dell's use some form of Cyberlink DVD player software as part of their media tools.
Other than that I know little else on the matter, sorry. -
Well I downloaded the update and now the cyberlink power dvd want do anything cant even install it is saying the exe file is not working. Does anyone know what I can do to get this update of the computer or get the whole program unistalled?
Thanks
