I was researching some of th processes on my pc and found out a lot of them had to do with the bluetooth and intel wi-fi. So I told intel pro to let windows handle wifi, went to add/remove programs, and uninstalled all the intel programs except for the driver. I also uninstalled the toshiba bluetooth stack since I don't have any bluetooth devices ( left the Bluetooth HID switch, don't know what it is). Number of processes went from 60 to 47. Doesn't really matter on a core duo, but I don't want processes running for no reason. Hth someone!

Yeah I have always let Windows handle my wireless. I didn't really like the Intel Pro-Set. It is always good to go through your start up programs and get rid of programs that you don't need to start up with the OS.

I also prefer your way of thinking. The same is with the CLI.exe of the ATI control center. Too many processes for nothing.

I have 30 processes when I started my notebook and it loads windows within 1 min.

Do you login as fast with the network without Intel Proset running?

i have 45 on average and load windows and ready to go in 47 sec. thats quick enough for me

Yes of course - driver is enough. CCC is nothing but a fancy, slow app. It takes RAM and is slowing the boot. Just install driver and you are fine. If you need some advanced settings (AA, colours, refresh etc) use Ati tray tools - faster and much more powerful than CCC.

I recall seeing a "Windows Vs. Proset" thread in which just about everyone who replied was raving about Proset, maybe with the exception of 1-2. Does anybody think that Proset is worth the extra processes? Or if it makes any differences at all?

Proset has:
1. More advanced features (that only some people need).
2. Better statistics (that would interest you if you are having problems),
3. Better profiles (when they work, and database is not corrupted - it happened to me twice).
4. Troubleshooting (that is more or less useless).
Add here at least two processes that require more ram, more disk, and produce irritating nonstandard alerts (ver 10). You got the picture.
Proset is way more powerful than windows client, but luckily I don't need it. Windows work great for my needs (WPA-TKIP and usage in 20 different networks). And BTW - Vista client is far better than XP. I wonder who will need Proset on Vista.
Cheers,

Thanks for addressing that. Point taken. Guess I'l be installing Intel's drivers w/o Proset.

The strangest thing. When I allowed Windows to handle WIFI, I had a weaker signal than when I used Intel's Proset. I wonder if there are some different parameters specific to my home network.
My signal in the basement with Intel: Excellent
With Windows: Good (2 steps down)
It must be some artificial 'grading scheme'.
Cut 10+ Processes!
