Prior to last night Dell was offering a $250 coupon on delluniversity.com plus $100 for signing up for MyDell. Now they're offering $0. I had thought that they would renew these offers as they had been doing, but I rolled my dice poorly.

This is the second time that I have gone to sleep thinking "I'll get it tomorrow." First I had planned on ordering the Vostro 1400 when they had it well-equipped for $600 only to wake up and have the deal gone. And now again I am thwarted. Will my decisions ever improve?

Most college students should have already ordered if they want their laptop by the time school starts, so why aren't the deals improving? Lower demand = better prices, right? This sucks.

Yeah I hear ya.. I kept missing the deals by thinking 'oh i'll order it tonight... tomorrow or whatnot. Missed the stackable coupons, the $350 coupon, the $300 coupon for orders of $1199, the 1400 for $599. Let me tell you, it never gets better and the delays just seem to get worse. I think Dell has made me lose my mind

    Lower demand = higher prices.

Well they know that now is the time everyone wants to buy since school is going back and the demand is high. After school starts, hello big coupons again.

um, if the demand curve shifts right, prices go up.

as far as i'm concerned, demand is still high since most schools don't start for another three weeks to a month.

right but the point is higher demand = lower prices, lower demand = higher prices regardless of where the curve is. but anyways, i agree that the whole coupon changing thing is crazy.

One thing to consider, so you don't go crazy, is that if you're getting the 10 or 12% off when you get a warranty package using dell university, you often can't use a coupon along with it. You have to add your order to your cart and try adding the coupon to see if it'll work. Often it won't. When I ordered (via Dell University), I got 12% off because I chose the DellCare Plus package, but I coudln't use the $300 coupon (even though it was stackable).

I don't think your missing out. I ordered my "was to be" Dell online and was sorely disappointed by their lamely existent customer service. I originally was thinking I would order BECAUSE they were supposed to have better customer service than Lenovo.

My experience: Order went through, credit card charged next morning. Next day customer service leaves voicemail about 2:30pm saying need to verify info. I called the general number next day at 11a.m. and the guy said everything was all good to go. Later about 3:30pm lady from Dell calls and says they need to verify info before they can ship. Next day I call and could not get through to the lady and the number she left. I left voicemail. Again in the afternoon of next business day another lady calls and reaches me. I tell her I've been getting the call saying their holding my laptop till they verify info. She said "no" its going to ship. I get email stating shipment date via "airborne".

The following Friday I get a note from DHL saying "attempted" delivery. I was home, perhaps man did not knock. Following morning i get call 8:30am voicemail says will attempt to deliver today. Wait half day go to DHL website no update on planned delivery. Contact DHL and they state "shipper request return to shipper". No second attempt. I call Dell customer service. No one answers phone... again. I electronic mail them to call me. They call me next day and say I have to call them to clarify situation. I say "No" because everytime I call them no one answers phone. I request she send me email to confirm my cancelation. She hangs up without any follow-up nor farewell. This was for the D830 business class line.

    Guess I'm buying a Lenovo....

It used to be here: http://www.delluniversity.com/ogrinfo.aspx. But as I said, it's gone now.

It's true, remix, this does make you lose your mind, and it's also really stressful.

get a vostra and find a 25% mystery coupon.. its not that great on the 1400 or the 1700 but if you do it right it makes a huge difference on the 1500..

as long as you are upgrading though.. base prices actually go up with the 25% off coupon.. i got t7500, 160gb, 8600 gt, bluetooth, camera, extra battery

came to 1064 total.. killer deal imo

The 100$ coupon is still there, it just doesn't stack anymore. After you sign up for the account there will be a link that says "click hear to receive your $100 coupon.. " etc. The good thing is... it works for the XPS machines

I'm really getting sick of Dell and its pricing games and its horrendous sales & customer service staff. I too was ready to use the $250 education coupon I just got yesterday on an Inspiron 1520. Went on line this afternoon only to find it doesn't work now. I'm this close to just going out & getting a nice, sleek HP laptop locally and be done with this. Maybe tomorrow they will offer a new coupon before they decide to revoke it 10 minutes later.

anyway go to dell business and cinfigure a 1500 its the same thing.. do a google search for the mystery coupon and use it.. it really makes a huge difference when adding a lot though.. not worth it with the "value" ones... or sit tight i can still even cancel mine again if they drop again.. or realease a new coupon code.. im on the lookout

standard one since i always upgrade doesnt do me any good anyway

yeah hurry according to dell the mystery coupons end sometime today.. it doesnt pay to use the 25% with the 1400 or 1700 unless you upgrade the hell out of them... but you can get a t7500, 160gb, 8600gt, 2gb, bluetooth, camera vostra 1700 for just under 1250 with the coupon just fyi... but the biggest discounts with the coupon are had with the 1500 imo

It's the Vostro 1400 or Inspiron 1420 I'm interested in, so the 25% coupon doesn't help me. As it is, a 1400 smart value usually offers more than 25%. I'd go ahead and order the 1400 for $700 if I could get it with Vista Premium, but apparently that's not possible here in the USA, even though people in the UK can.

    ....lower demand = lower prices
....higher demand = higher prices because consumers are willing to pay for them

Some guy posted twenty 25% mystery coupons yesterday for small businesss... if I hadn't just got an E1505 I probably would have gotten a Vostro/Latitude right then and there.

If you're simply shifting the demand curve to the right (more demand) the prices will go up and vica versa.

I think you confused yourself a little bit. You're thinking about moving down as a point along the demand curve which would mean increase in quantity decrease in price. That only happens though when the supply itself increases and the demand curve stays the same. An influx of consumers moves the demand curve, not the point where the demand and supply cross
