I ordered my inspiron 1721 on 23/03/08. Original EDD was 10/04/08 but checked the order status today and its been put back to 23/04/08, despite having multipul phonecalls and emails with Dell telling me there is "deffinatly no delay with your order, actually its in production as we speak (over a week ago)"

    Status now showing "pre-production"

Are there any particular delays anyone is aware of at the moment?

    Cheers, James

apparently dell's been having battery shortages due to a fire at a suppliers premises, it's possible that that shortage will affect us here on the other side of the pond.

also worth noting that Pre-production means they're still getting the bits together, so if they are waiting on a battery, that's what stage it will be, until they have all the components and it moves to "production" stage.

one final thing to remember, is that Dell has been having problems with the order status bit of their website, so it may not be displaying the correct information, you may just have to take the reps word for it.

    good luck.

Order placed on 26/03/2008, estimated delivery date 29/04/2008!.
What really sucks is that now the offers have changed I could have got 40gig more h/d space, a webcam and an Nvidia card on the Vostro 1700 for £60 more.
Don't know if I'm reading the Dell site wrong, but have they stopped doing the intel onboard graphics on the 1700's?. Had a look yesterday and they seem to come with the 128mb Nvivia card as standard now.
Anyway, still stuck in pre-production limbo for now.

    Thanks, Brad

turns out that they have stopped supplying the inspirons with AMD processors, I emailed dell (again) and they said it was "deffinatly in production" so i thought i would call dell to double check and their rep said "ive just checked the status of your order and its in production" after a little while i ended up talking to their manager who informed me that it wasnt going to get built atall as they no longer supply AMD cpu's!!! and he told me i had to cancel my order and re-order another laptop!

What really gets me is when were they going to tell me? even when i enquired about it they said it was all ok!!! so note to anyone hanging around waiting for an AMD inspiron (1521 / 1721) get on the phone now as it aint gonna arrive!!!!

so re-ordered a very very nice vostro 1700 with a much better spec for £1.82 less that the original inspiron!!

My order went from pre-production to shipped today!. It's with Walsh Western now, so should have it before too long.

    Hi guys,

I ordered my XPS1330 from Dell outlet on 16 April, never heard anything from them so I gave them a call this morning. They informed me there was a 48hour backlog in orders, and the credit team would take the money from my account some time today for the order to progress.

Has anyone else had the same problem?

Also when checking the Service Tag No. BSVPH3J on the site, it doesn't give any information of what system I have.

    Any ideas?
