Please don't spam the WNSIB forum, keep it to ONE thread, not 4.

Moving from WNSIB forum to Dell forum.

Mine just arrived last week and only hooked up to wireless on Thurs. So far so good. Most of my problems seem to be the changes from xp to vista. I'm getting used to the keyboard now - had some problems at first but none now. Bought a wireless mouse RIGHT away.

Can't say much else but so far I'm glad I got it.

Depends on what you are getting in it, and the price.
I got a pretty much fully loaded one, and the performance was great for the price, but some of the keyboard keys were faulty, and the screen was horribly dim and had a grainy sparkle effect.
At first I reported it for repairs, but there local repair boy told them he fixed the problems, even though he called me saying he couldn't make it and would call me back (he never did). I reported that to Dell, and they did not even seem concerned about being lied to. They just said they will have someone else from that repair shop call me (and they never did).
Eventually, I returned it for a full refund.
IF only the screen had been acceptable, it would've been a good deal, and I probably would have kept it.
Instead, I ordered a Clevo/Sager with all the same specs (except it has a 9750gtx vid card instead of the 7900gs in the Dell), and I only paid about $350 more. I think it is worth it for the boutique-style personal customer service, and the better vid card. It comes in tommorow, so I guess I'll see for sure if it was worth it.
As far as the E1705, it CAN be worth it, if you get all good quality working parts, and the price is right....and you can tolerate the customer "service".
It just wasn't right for me.

It's a solid notebook performance/price, I did however as Dreamcat stated have problems with a key coming off the keyboard. I called dell and they sent me a replacement pronto, there've been problems with a certain brand of DVD/CD drive that they were putting into the notebooks(forgot the name brand),but check the forum I know the problem was dicussed here somewhere, anyway haven't had any other problem. It's the only notebook THAT I KNOW OF that you can upgrade the gfx's card so yes I'm happy with the notebook. Look for dell coupons and the outlet section on the website you might just come across a great deal.

    I LOVE mine.

I work for United Parcel Service and get a year round minimum discount of 10% on all Dell products.

For april they upped it to 15% so I jumped on it. I got $320 instant rebate, and 15% off of the ORIGINAL price.

Mine isn't fully loaded, but it's about 7/8's loaded. :)

So far it's been really great. I have no real complaints about it other than the color of the damn thing. (Silver!? FFS Silver shows EVERYTHING, and white borders EWWW)

It seemed like the best buy to me because of the overall customizability and upgradability Dell's seem to have. Their customer service is GREAT too. Albeit I will admit their customer service system is annoying to sit through.

I got a 9 cell battery with mine. On power saver mode with processor max set to 40% on power saver mode I get about 3.5 to 3.8 hours of battery time while doing normal things. (Word, illustrator, photoshop) That seems pretty good for a laptop this size.

It also has a TON of ports. Firewire, DVI, Svideo. Everything you need to use the laptop as a portable HD output monster.

It also reads SD memory cards. Which is also cool.

All in all, I really like it. After I figure out overclocking I'm considering selling my desktop if I can get significant enough performance out of this machine.

Hard drive failed after a few months. Now, two weeks after warranty ran out, the screen is going. Dell wants about $400 to fix! This is about my 4th Dell but will definitely consider something else next time. My old Inspiron 1100 is still going strong--at my sister-in-law's house!

Otherwise, the E1705 has been OK.

I'm happy with my E1705. I've yet to have any problems with it and I've owned it since Easter. :)

It doesn't get very good battery life with the 6 cell (About 1.5hrs) but that is expected as it's a 17" with a nice dedicated GPU (7900).

up until 2007 I was happy with my e1705 that I bought july 2006. In 2007 I began getting blue screen crashes while playing games. At first I thought it was a random error. Problem got worse and worse. After caving in and calling tech support, they sent a guy to replace the 7900gs today. With the new gpu in, I can report that the system now crashes 2x faster! I'm pretty mad right now and I am doubtful that I will buy dell again. Windows xp is showing artifacts on the loading screen! If I am able to get a refund I likely will and then I'll get a sager with the money. No more Dell.

Had mine since March last year. Had to swap the first LCD due to light leakage (within 3 weeks of buying it), other than that, been 100% rock solid, and I travel internationally a lot.

Had one for over 1 year - no problems at all, great unit, great screen.

the key design is a bit fragile if they have to be taken out to clean the keyboard.

Has an issue where its thermal threshold is too high for the fan to turn on. Had to download a 3rd party software to run the fan constantly. I expect this to work out of the box. Without the fan, it runs 60C constantly, maybe not too bad but I like 40C better.
