I've seen a lot of people talk about blue and black, but I was just curious to see how many people ordered a green Inspiron.

Spring green 1720 here. Ordered on 7/20. I am starting to believe that I am the only one who ordered a green 1720. Anyhow, my ESD is Thursday. Unlikely.

ESD of 8/28/07 also, but its EXPEDITED. I need a Dell to English dictionary to figure out what that really means though.

 

From what people here say, it's just Dell's way to shut you up. XD

 

just got off of Dell Chat and the person said that the green color is backordered and they don't have any other color in right now except black...

 

I just checked the dell website. The spring green color went up to 16 days delay for the 1420 There's a 15 day delay for the 1520. And if anyone ordered the 1280x800 glossy screen for the 1420 there's a 10 day delay. With all these backordered items I'm starting to wonder if I'll get my laptop on time.

Does anyone know of a person actually receiving a Spring Green Inspiron? Maybe the whole color thing is just a hoax? LOL

 

I know I saw some pictures of a Spring Green Inspiron somewhere around here. So, some lucky person must have gotten one. However, it's always possible that it was an undercover Dell employee who posted them, just to throw us off.

 

I just had a vison of some Dell employee wearing a trenchcoat and sunglasses trying to take inconspicuous digital photos of a green Inspiron laptop instead of doing his real job (i.e. HELPING US!!!!)

Speaking with two Dell Customer Care reps I get two different reasons. One says the delay is due to the colored lid and the wireless N card. Another I spoke with told me its the lcd screen. Whatever, just makes you wonder.

The reps are so nice though! Always offering to upgrade my shipping to next day. I guess they never noticed its going to Hawaii. Dell only ships via next day here and charges us for it very nicely.

 

I spoke with a manager "Sandy" tonight in response to my conversation with another CSR on the chat line on 8/13. He could not explain why my Inspiron 1520 was delayed. Said they were "trying to expedite" but it wasn't working. I told him I was cancelling and buying a Toshiba. He said "give me 3 more days and if I can't do anything I'll call you back and I'll process the cancellation."

Needless to say, a Toshiba with almost the same specs as the Dell (the processing speed is a little slower) and a FREE PRINTER costs about $700.00 less at Circuit City. OK so it has a blue case, not a green one, big deal. I think we're going for it.

 

And what computer would that be? Circuitcity over charge and Dell is probably the cheapest quality computer company thats out there

 

Really? A Dell manager asked you to give him 3 more days before cancelling? I'm surprised, in a good way. I'm supposed to get a call, but that's like 6 hours ago. Not holding my breath.

The response I always get is: "We're trying to expedite your order."

It would just be a nice gesture if they offered us something for this ... say one more year of extended warranty. Even the KFC offers me a free drink when they make me wait an extra five minutes.

 

I have green... wish it was actually in my hands though... why do other colours get theirs earlier than their ESDs?!?!! I need mine for school...:S

What should I say to get free next day shipping on my comp?? I dont wanna mess it up. :O

 

Yeah, you should probably go for something other than next business day shipping, though I have no advice on how. But from what other people have said, that NBD shipping wasn't really next day.

So from the looks of it....seems like the spring green is going to be pushed back even past the estimated shipping date they gave most of us! I really hope that it doesn't get delayed again!!! I will be so mad if they do that to us!

 

Damn. I certainly hope not. My ESD of September 5th is already pushing it, since school starts not long after.

 

I'm so upset about all these delays because my school starts on the 27th!!!!!!!! So the spring green is delayed 16 days....or 3 weeks. and the screens are delayed 10 days, which equals two weeks. This is absolutely ridiculous! It has already been a month since i ordered the laptop! I wish they would give us more information about these delays! I wish they would tell us specifically that either they didn't order enough color lids or there was something completely wrong with the ones the dell factory received. I think they need to just start taking all the sample lids from the kiosks and start using those! lol. But the truth of the matter is that this is not something to laugh about- so please excuse my lol. I'm actually completely frustrated! I'm a sad panda!

I'm actually going to look at it at MicroCenter today (although their price is $160 higher). If I like it, I'm going to Delaware tonight to buy it at Circuit City (NO TAX! YEA!) and cancelling the Dell tomorrow.

I can't believe how stupid I was. I should have cancelled two weeks ago when I found out it was delayed until 8/28!

College starts on the 25th. I can't wait any longer.

 

I contemplated buying a Sony Vaio that I had seen at Best Buy. The specs were similar to what I ordered on my Inspiron, but it was a little bit more expensive and it's not green. So, I think I'll keep waiting. If it does actually ship on or before 8-28, I should be able to get it before school. I don't start school until 9-4...

 

I ordered 1 week before you (7/7 Blue 1520) and I got it today and I can say I am very glad I waited it out.

 

Im just letting you guys know that my sisters spring green is in the boxing stage now. Its a 1520 with a T7300, WSXGA+, 2GB ram, 8400gs and she order it on 7/9. So some good news for you guys.

 

people from Dell Chat still said that the spring green colored lids are still delayed and will be for some time =p boo...

 

they will be some time? as in how much time?!?!?

 

that was the problem... they weren't even able to give me an answer to that, they just kept apologizing and saying that they're trying their best to ship it out as soon as possible =(

 

I cancelled yesterday and bought a Toshiba. Really nice machine. Saved about $110.00 in taxes and after we send the rebates in it will end up costing us $400 less than the Dell would have cost me, but I also got all of the cables and Microsoft Office as well.

I ordered green and the fact that they have the longest "may delay your order" of all of the possible colors on the Dell online ordering system isn't very reassuring. Plus I configured mine with just about every other component that various reps have claimed were causing delays at some point or another--WXGA+ screen, T7300 processor, webcam, bluetooth module, Intel wireless N card, 8600M GT. Now, I don't know that any of these are causing delays as of NOW, but.. August 28th is approaching quickly and I'm starting to get the feeling that another delay is coming with it. Sigh.

I actually saw a spring green laptop "in the wild" the other day, though. The General Manager of my company has one. I was in his office for a meeting and it was like he was mocking me with it.

 

update: according to dell website, for those who ordered a spring green 1420, the green color went down from 16 days delay to a 3 days delay. I think we might be getting our laptop soon.

 

I tried so hard to be patient, waiting for my spring green 1520...

My estimated ship date is today and I'm still in the build stage, and the automated phone lady doesn't tell me an estimated ship date anymore.

And I'm starting to get frustrated.

I placed the order on July 19th. I was okay patiently waiting until my ship date of August 17th, I was happy to have a date to look forward to.

But now I have nothing, and I can't even trust in what they are telling me.

Their customer service sucks. Keeping your customer in the dark and changing the ship dates ON THE DAY it's supposed to ship is a bunch of crap.

Sorry - just venting! I'm not mad about the delay, I'm mad about the lack of communication and the inconsistant information.

 

I wouldn't believe much of anything Dell's Customer Care online chat said. They just follow the script, let you say whatever you like, then go right back to the script as if you did not say anything.

 

Interesting.... I just performed a little experiment on Dell's website to see what the price and estimated ship date of my system would be if I ordered it now. I learned it would be about $250 more and the estimated ship date would be 09/21.

Out of curiosity, I tried changing the color to see how that would impact the estimated ship date. Here's what I found:

Blue - 09/24
Red - 09/24
Pink - 09/24
Green - 09/21
Yellow - 09/17
Brown - 09/05

Black - 09/04

Hopefully we all get ours before 09/21!

My mother ordered a laptop for my daughter as a high school graduation gift. My daughter needs the laptop by August 25th when she moves into college. I have placed numerous calls to Dell and can't get any real solid information about what is causing the delay. The automated order status hotline has been telling me its in the build phase.

I seriously doubt that the laptop will arrive before my daughter has to move-in. To compound the issue, my mother (who ordered the laptop) is out of the country on a cruise for another 3 weeks. So I can't cancel the order and buy another laptop, or even reorder from Dell.

 

I want my computer sooo bad!! I leave for college in four days and I most likely am not going to have a computer:cry: I can't believe I searched for months for the perfect laptop and when I finally find it the color gets backordered. I'm trying to hold out until the 8/28 ESD but if that one gets delayed as well I'm going to have to cancel the order. The problem is that this is was the best deal on a computer with these specs plus I got a Spring Green cover and free shipping (not that that's is helping at all!) Now I might have to search all over again for a much worse deal. This all makes me so mad

I hope you get your computer this week. Your order date is the closest to mine I have seen. It bugs me that so many people ordered this month and have already gotten their computers, and yet still complain.

Anyway...There is some hope for you. Mine went into shipping status yesterday....but I have no tracking info.

Just as a side note... I was to the same point you are at this past week... I called in to cancel my order, and they wouldn't let me cancel.

What status are you on? Have you called the order status line? If you are in Boxing, they probably won't let you cancel even if you tried.
