All right guys, it has come down to this.

I have configued two machines, both the same price.
    a Dell Inspiron E1705 and
    a Dell Inspiron E1505

I am having waaay too much trouble choosing one.

    Both are pretty topped out.
    2.0ghz Core2 Duo
    The E1705 pros:
    Nvidia Go 7900GS
    1GB DDR Memory
    80GB 5400SATA HDD
    17" TrueLife WXVGA
    -----------------------------------------
    The E1505
    2.16ghz Core 2 Duo
    15.4" TrueLife WXVGA
    512MB DDR
    80GB 5400SATA HDD
    Radeon X1400 (ewwww)
3Year Limited Warranty [E1705 has one year, Mail in service]
Add CompleteCare Accidental Damage Service to 3Yr Lim Warranty

    Anything i should change?
Should I just go with the E1505 for the portability and warranty...
Exactly how much more of a pain in the ass is hauling around an E1705 than the E1505.

Is the warranty actually worth it?
    Three years?!

Or should I just leave the hardcore gaming to the desktop?

Honestly between personal preference it is waaay too hard.
My budget is 1500 and this is what i have to work with.

    Thanks!

If you're spending $1500, don't get a Dell. That would honestly be my suggestion. Look at a higher-end product, because you can afford it...

i've looked all over, i've tried the survey.
i can't seem to find the laptop for me.

the E1705 is the closest. but its a little on the chunky side.

for your budget, i would go wtih the 6400/e1505 that u made there except updgrade the memory to 1 gb at least...or you can by it and upgrade the memory later on...but for your price i would go with the 6400/e1505

btw where abouts are you? canada? us?

for 1500 bucks I personally would go for the xps m1210,there is actually one in dell outlet now for $999, core duo 1660, 80 gig 7200rpm hd, 1gig of ram, and 256 meg gf7400, thats a hell of a deal, for $1439 you can upgrade to a duo 1830,100 gig hd, and 2 gigs of ram

I take my E1705 everywhere and never have any trouble with portability (I suppose if I was a small guy I might, but the laptop sort of fits me). The E1705 you have configured there is going to have substantially more get-up & go than the E1505, but the E1505 will have longer battery life. What tasks will you be doing on this notebook?

It depends. If you need the graphics performance of the 7900 GS then it's an easy choice with the E1705. If you don't, then E1505 is the way to go.

Your "Or should I just leave the hardcore gaming to the desktop?" leads me to believe you want to game on the thing. If that is the case, E1705.

The m1210 is a pretty sexy little machine. I like that suggestion too .. I wish I would have seen that little $1000 outlet machine when I got my system. I may have gone with that instead.

I chose the E1505, because i had a 9300 and sold it a few months later. The thing is huge, way to heavy/bulky for college. I'm glad i made the change.

The way I see it, and I am no expert, if you want to play games, take the e1705.
If you are getting it for dvd's and general use, the e1505.

1705....you can do more.....and it's the same freakin price....what's to think about, unless you think that lappy will weight you down......don't see how it could.....it's only 8 or 9 pounds.....heck.....most peoples 7-11 slurpees weigh that much.....and they carry those around ;)

I'll attack on a different angle:
I have the e1505 and the M90. I gather that the M90 is virtually the same as the e1705, same metal chassis etc. The lid cover for the e1505 is plastic, its metal for the e1705.
Its also very clunky (I would not lift the e1705 with one hand).
I prefer the e1705. And the WUXGA screen is a thing of beauty!

Also note, u can eke out an extra year of warranty by using the right credit card, see my sig.

Nah... I've carried around heavier textbooks... and the e1705 IS much better then the e1505 for playing games... and games are good :)

    haha you guys are awesome.
    I've chosen the E1705.
    The performance outweighed the size.
I'm not a short stubby guy. I think I can handle it ;)

    Plus, games rock.

It wont be shipped til the 22nd so do you think if i change my mind (or a better deal comes out) they will let me cancel without paying a fee?

another thing to consider is the battery life. my roomate with a e1505 gets like 4:30ish hours of battery life while my e1705 can barely push at 1:45 hours

If u cancel it before its shipped, then no charge.
But dell is notorios for shipping orders earlier. Post the price & specs :D
Did u extend the warranty via CC ?

I say E1705, which I guess is good since that's what you got. It may be bigger, but the E1505 isn't really a lightweight when it comes to 15.4" laptops. Seriously, a few pounds heavier and less than an inch thicker is enough to make you guys flip out? That's kinda sad. Actually, my M90 is about as thick as my friends 15.4" Gateway. And I'm in college and take my M90 with me to classes every week. Is it the most convenient? No. But it works. And I get incredible power.

Surprising - yes, but there is a class difference between the e1705 and the e1505. I can handle the e1505 with one hand, not so with the M90/e1705. Granted, I'm not a big strong guy, but still..
The e1505 is easier to handle.

BUT....I would prefer the e1705 as its better built. (metal lid etc). And the WUXGA screen looks wicked awesome !

I've had a Dell 9300 and XPS Gen 2 in the past and i can tell you that it's a pretty big difference grabbing ahold of an E1505 in comparison. The specs on paper may be close to the same but a pound or two and an inch or two here and there make a very noticeable difference.

Did RaptorX30 ever give a description of his usage needs? If you are a college student that plans on doing quite a bit of walking on a large campus, I'd suggest you reconsider the E1705.

Have you seen this thing in person? It's a real monster and takes up considerable real estate on a desk.

However, if you really want to game on a laptop I'd say the E1705 is really the only way to go. You have to weight your real needs. If you can game on a desktop and leave the laptop for school work, papers, internet surfing, no real heavy 3d then the E1505 or as others have suggested M1210 would be a better choice.

I sold my E1505 2 weeks ago, and ordered an E1705. I couldn't resist the 7900GS vs. the crappy X1400 I had in the E1505. I still can't figure out what made me purchase a 15.4" instead of 17" in the first place, man the bigger screen for TV shows, movies, games..etc is just AWSOME. But then again, I'm not gonna carry this thing anywhere, IT IS a desktop replacement.
