So here's the problem. I'm addicted to laptops. I used to only own a desktop and it was old and outmoded, but it did what I needed. Early this year, I purchased my first laptop, an XPS M1530. My only reservation had been that my desktop had a 19" screen and the M1530, of course, didn't. But it worked out and I have had no complaints. But then I was like, "hm, the M1330 looks so awesome in build, I have to get one." This is despite the fact that I completely realize that I don't need one -- of course, anything I can do on the M1330 I can do on the M1530. Also, the M1530 is quite portable and, regardless, I don't carry them around much (although, let me tell anyone who is wondering, the M1330 is a delight to carry around).
Then I decided to get the ASUS Eee PC 900 for casual web browsing and simple word processing. I'm still waiting to receive it. But, seriously, I have no need for the M1330 at all. I can tell myself that I can leave my M1530 for home use and take the ASUS with me outside and that would be completely reasonable. And, yes, I can afford all three laptops, so that's not an issue. But I'm feeling really guilty at the impulse buy of the M1330. On the other hand, I got it during Dell's sweet 40% off sale. But that sort of like justifying buying dog food for 90% off when you don't own a dog.
Is anyone else a laptop crackhead? Or just me?

Well, if you were that big of a crackhead, you would have saved your money from say, two of the laptops (instead of the M1530) and waiting just a month for Montevina to come out, and most likely the new XPS laptops to come out, and spend your money on them with incredible battery life, faster FSB, and processors actually around the same cost as the original Penryns.
-
Nah, I needed my fix right away. Actually, the M1330 was a total impulse buy when I saw the 40% off. But the reason for the post is that I'm seriously considering returning the M1330 since I don't need it. The M1530 is a great laptop and the ASUS will be my ultra-portable answer. That leaves the M1330 as the "in-between" option -- not as powerful as the M1530, not as portable as the ASUS ...but still so great that I can't bear to part with it!!
*sigh* -
i know what you need to justify all your purchase and instantly make them all portable. a sager9262.

You need help man.
Ignore my sig. -

I know how you feel. So far this year I've bought three laptops already and I've had five different ones in the last year. Though I'm thinking about getting rid of the two I have now and just saving up for a great laptop maybe later this summer, most likely a M1530 or whatever its replacement might be. But then I should wait for Nahalem, shouldn't I? Trust me I know your pain.
-
You can always sell the 1330 for a great deal to people, you know, that forever search the whats for sale thread until the computer shutdown due to overheat due to constant pressing of the F5 key, hmm, I wouldn't know any though

I'm itching to a new notebook, but I'm forcing myself to wait until Montevina ships.
-
haha I hear ya man. I've been obsessed with portable electronics these days .
-
Oh my....right now: ROFLMAO
-
Tell me about it. I'm on my 4th laptop in less than 2 years. 3 of them Dell's.
I ordered my 5th already, Vostro 1310, and I'm already itching for Montevina's release so I can sell that and get in on the Centrino 2 goodness. (Yes, this is before the 1310 even reaches my hands) -
you know what i say man, time to move on to a new itch. Get yourself involved in buying really really expansive tvs or sound systems so you dont have money left to waste on laptops. Just remember that stupid coke addicts will try to distract himself from the coke by moving on to crack, which is a hell of a lot worse . So just make sure you dont accidently pick up a new urge to buy apple brand electronics and you'll be in good shape.
Anyone else hate everything apple makes besides their iphone? -
I know what you mean mate.
Ive got my M1730, which does EVERYTHING I need it to do. But I liked the look of the M1330 - even though I dont really need it.
I ended up bying a wireless router the other week. So when the M1330 arrives my excuse is that I can use it as a portable unit aroun dthe house. Trouble is, I dont see myself using the M1730 very much in that case, since Im re-buying a XBox 360 for gaming...!! -
I'm in this case too, but the thing is I dont have money for that so.....
-
I'm just an electronic's whore - I want stuff just because. I own a MBP, an iMac, just purchased a Dell X1 from my job (nice little machine that I set up Vista on - runs pretty good, I must say). I've got an iBook G4 that I use for testing updates on, and I think I'm pretty certain that I'm going to pick up one of the new E-series Latitudes if/when they are released.

I don't see anything at all wrong with having a "backup laptop."
Or two...
I've actually bought 5 since last year, though I sent 3 back. -
-
Think of the people who are lucky to even have one laptop!

I'm in the same buying spiral. I have a m1530, HP 2138xx and an Averatec. I want to get an Asus Eee but my superego says 'what for?' My id says 'it's so light and portable' Then I think and of getting a tablet pc and the same arguments comes back. Impulse buys can get you in trouble I tell you. For a price of a good laptop you can get a big LCD HDTV!
-
I'd get rid of the ASUS Eee PC 900 notebook and keep the m1330!
What a combo that is, the m1530 & m1330.
You say you like notebooks? I've owned both notebooks and desktops since 1985
The NEW & the OLD!

Does the old laptop still work?
-
-
haha I bet that thing was a FORTUNE when you got it. -
But it's a problem. You find yourself looking for a new laptop even when you've just got one...
It's a cruel, painful, downwards spiral to guilt-filled technological enjoyment. -

It's amazing how the styles compare even 20 years later. -
What's the resolution on the old one? 5 x 4? 6 x 8?
Crap ...I'm a laptop crackhead. Help!
