Hello!
I had "Crackle Sound" issue - caused by "old' Dell WireLess Driver!
One member here gave me original BroadCom Driver!
But this driver gave me non-stop blinking/blink Led.
So I made/create my own remixed driver!
Fixed Issues:
- Slow Shutdown
- Crackling/Crackle Sound
- Non-stop Blinking/Blink Wi-Fi (Wireless) Indicator
Tested on:
Studio 1535
Dell Wireless Half-Mini 1397 Card
Dell Windows Vista SP 2 X64
It must work on Vista both X32 and x64!
For/Supported Wi-Fi Cards:
Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card"
Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN ExpressCard"
Dell Wireless 1490 Dual Band WLAN Mini-Card"
Dell Wireless 1490 Dual Band WLAN ExpressCard"
Dell Wireless 1500 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini-Card"
Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini-Card"
Dell Wireless 1395 WLAN Mini-Card"
Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card Gligg"
Dell Wireless 1510 Wireless-N WLAN Mini-Card"

Very nice, I had not heard of any members creating their own driver before. How did you go about creating the driver to fix the LED blinking issue?
-
Which blinking LED are you referring to?
I have a Studio 1535 and the only indicator pertaining to wireless is a white 'WiFi' light next to the bluetooth and hdd activity lights on the right side of the touch buttons. I'm curious to know if there is a hidden light on my lappy. -
Bluetooth and WiFi lights are normally stable (constant light) for me (No Blink/Blinking)
NO hidden indicator!
Just My bad English!
atbnet: Thank you.Actually it is not my own driver.I have some skill with programing languages (Borland Delphi, Visual C++).
But it this case - It was pretty simple!
I just leave old "bcmwl6.ini" by "Dell" file and replaced all other files/drivers from "BroadCom"!
"bcmwl6.ini" contains information about "WiFi Indicator" control/activity; driver version; driver vendor, supposed Wi-Fi cards........
I guess Dell makes their drivers the same way! They just modify "bcmwl6.ini" for their hardware (with stamp Dell) and all other files are directly from BroadCom!
I don't want any credits for me.I just do/did it for people with "Crackle Sound" and "Slow Shutdown"!
They will see drastically improvements!Attached Files:

GREAT! I've noticed the slight crackling with my dell as well.
I'll install it and give you some feedback on it!
Update: Works GREAT on my Dell 1537 W/ Dell Wireless 1510 Wireless-N WLAN Mini-Card.
I've also uploaded the file so my web host, for those who just hate rapidshare and the waiting.

defektion - are you "crackling" free now?
Because I'm crackling free from 2 days!
Thank you for the feedback - I highly appreciate it -
The crackling didn't bug me as much before but since its fixed. no complaints here. -
defektion - It didn't bug me too!
But sometimes - "Windows Vista Start Sound"; "HD movies" - It was "irritating"!
Plus I work with PowerPoint Presentations - So People expect from me - perfect presentations
Studio 1535;1536;1537 are great machines.
I'm extremely happy with my Studio!
Marry X-mass And Thank you again -
I found a hp drive that worked for the dell 1510 card. it is signed so I was able to use it on vista 64bit and it also solved my crackling noise
-
here is the url if any one needs a signed driver. h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-66350-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&os=2093&product=3747931I
-
HP driver has the same base/core as mine!
I easily can make it "Signed" - but is is no needed at that point!
Thank you for sharing!
I'm happy for you too I know how "irritating" "crackling" can be
Happy X-mass -
I think I'm doing something wrong, it's just telling me my driver is up to date and doesn't need an update.
I have the Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card. -
With manual load from Device Manager - you can load any driver older or new without any problem.
Just extract in some directory my driver (files)!
Just go to Control Panel -> hardware and sound -> device adapters -> Network Controllers -> Dell Wireless 1397 Wlan Mini Card -> Properties -> Driver -> Update Driver -> Browse to "directory where you already had "my" driver files extracted" and select "bcmwl6"
After - it must give you options to choose:
1) Dell Wireless 1395 WLAN Mini-Card
2) Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card Gligg
Select number 2 and you will be fine -
Yeah, I was doing it wrong. Got it now, though. Thanks!
-
Can someone show me where to get a driver to fix the issue for windows XP 32 bit? I'd really love to fix the problem but am using windows xp sp3.
-
Kamel: sorry I don't know!
Studio 15 is primary suppose to work with Vista and I think for this notebook Vista is better choose!
I guess you can get driver directly from Broadcom somehow! -
I've noticed this "Crackle" on my new 1737 under certain conditions, If I eneable bass boost or other effects or if I switch the volume while music is playing very rapidly from high to low.
I am leaving it alone, it a good excuse to use to get a warranty replacement or a new laptop.
theres no reason why a 1 week old new laptop should need repair or part replacement.
Thats my excuse I'll give them. -
Dell can give to you brand new notebook, but WHO will guarantee you - your "new" notebook will be better!
Before 2 months I had very bad HP 6730s replaced with new 6730s!
But they both had different but very bad problems!
I end up with -300 $ back because the HP and +300 $ for new Dell Studio 1535 (replaced WireLess Card and Motherboard (reason "crackling) - but now I'm 100 % sure my MOBO and WireLess are in perfect condition)!
My Studio is ten times better than HP 6730s! -
i have updated my drivers and it reduced the crackling but under some extreme load. (games going, firefox, aim, music,) i still can get a little crackling. it definitley helps tho thanks!
-
This driver was a huge help in solving my problem with my XPS M1530 with the Dell 1505 WLAN card. Thank you for your work!
-
I'm sorry, but can someone bring me up to speed here? How exactly does a driver for a wireless card affect the audio in our laptops? I've been trying for a while to fix the crackling sounds in my audio, and I never even considered for a second it was a driver issue with the wireless card.

use my driver, it is based on version 5.10.38.26 too!
-
I think I found the update on this FTP server but I couldn't get it to install, it just said IDS_LAUNCHCONDITION_OSVERSION. Guess I'll have to use the unsigned one.
http://ftp.us.dell.com/network/R205184.exe
It doesn't say it supports Studio 1537 which I have but aren't the 1397 cards the same? -
This is my first post on the forums, and I just want to thank the topic creator for making strides to fix this annoying problem. After scouring the web for a solution for a few months now, I had begun to give up hope. Who would have thought that modified wireless drivers would be the first major breakthrough?
I just installed these custom drivers, and so far I have not been experiencing any crackling like I did before. My only gripe right now is that I seem to have lost some reception strength after installing these drivers. I am using a Dell XPS 1530 with the 1395 WLAN card.
Has anyone else experienced a loss in signal strength? Also, I would really like to know what happened to that official Dell driver that seemed to vanish. It was the first sign of Dell actively trying to fix this!
Thanks again! -
My signal strength is usually fine but the speed has been a bit more unstable with the custom driver I think. I'd rather have crackle free sound than perfect WLAN connection tbh. Hopefully Dell will publish the real driver soon.
-
Yep, after using my XPS 1530 with the custom driver for about an hour or two now, I can safely say that the speed is slightly unstable as compared to the old Dell drivers. I am going to stick with this one though. I am SO glad to finally be able to watch online videos without that annoying popping/crackling.
And once I get home - where I have a dedicated wireless connection - I am sure that the signal will be a non-issue.
Thanks again! -
Most files in the driver are from original 5.10.38.26 broadcom driver, I just modified it for better work with Dell Wireless cards!
My speed is fine!My internet is slow because my provider, but We have here 2 HP and My dear Dell Studio 15 (I love it) - and I honesty cannot/can't see any difference (NetGear Wireless Router model WPN824v2)
By the way I guess I can digitally sign the driver - but IMO it is not need, because the driver works fine for me - about 1 month!
Sorry for my bad English -
After using my laptop with this driver for the last couple of days, I can safely say that this is a godsend. Being able to hear crystal-clear sound through my XPS 1530's speakers makes it seem like I am using a whole new computer altogether!
Thank you once again. -
I'm glad ScOULaris it works good for you
-
You've saved my life...every day I was getting more and more fed up with this Dell, searching everywhere for a fix, hoping that just maybe Dell would get some balls and address the issue. But you guys came through here with a great driver, no more clicking/popping, can finally listen to all the wonderful Dub Reggae I have on my new headphones in peace! Cheers mates!
-
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I can hardly believe that awful noise is finally gone.
Now if only our laptop makers can incorporate this fix throughout. -
When I first opened my Studio 15 oem package I myself when I heard the sound quality.. Was about to throw the laptop out the window but ended up doing some research, and thank god I just had to disable the broadcam A band. Now it works dandy, and now the second issue is the poor quality speakers, they barely get loud.. But! again there is a way to fix it and make them LOUD. Thank god for this forum.. Only problem with the laptop so far is ;( when I insert an sd card the blue horror screen of death comes up.. It never did it before but does it almost everytime now.. anyone know any fixes or what is causing this??
-
anyone knows what was causing the problem ? i am wondering cause i installed ubuntu on the 1535 (with no additional drivers) and the sound was great.
-
It was the driver that Dell has available for the sound in the Studio 15. It seems if you use the default Windows Vista driver the crackle is gone.
-
i dual booted back in vista to try out that new driver. and it did not fix my crackling sound..unfortunately. i somehow think its a different problem that causes this for me, just cant figure out what exactly.
-
Didn't solve my problem on my m1530.
Seems to happen mostly when clicking through folders, when the Windows "click" sound is played.
I've also noticed that if I plug in headphones and listen while I slowly adjust the volume slider, I can hear major static. -
I had installed this on my XPS 1530 when I was running Vista, and it worked perfectly. Now that I installed Windows 7 RC, however, I cannot remember how I did it. I try selecting the folder with the modified drivers while doing a manual driver update for my wireless card, but it just tells me that I am currently using the most up-to-date drivers.
I have also tried uninstalling the device and then scanning for new hardware, but it always automatically installs the older 10/1/2008 Broadcom drivers before I can do anything about it.
Can anyone help me out? I did it before on Vista somehow, but for the life of me I can't remember. -
hi...i have the studio 1535 with dell wireless 1510 wireless-n wlan mini-card.
everytime i try to update the driver with the the remade one....it keeps on sayin that the wireless 1510 wireless-n is the best and doesnt change it. Can anyone help me? -
I solved it on my vostro 1320 by installing this driver for ;y dell 1397 wireless card.
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/NE...397-Half-MiniCard-4312bg-Driver-5103826.shtml
I have vista business 64, but driver works for 32 too.
Hope this helps -
I have been looking over this thread and others on other sites, looking for a fix. If you are using Windows XP, you can download this driver
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...on.jsp?swItem=ob-71351-1&lang=en&cc=us&mode=5
Its for the exact same wifi card but made by HP. When you install it, it says it might be incompatible but it worked perfectly for me. I have a Dell XPS m1530 with a Dell Wireless 1505 card. It seems to have taken all crackles away. -
Why not try this one, it's quite a bit newer: http://support.dell.com/support/dow...typeid=-1&dateid=-1&formatid=-1&fileid=379263
