    Hello everyone,

I just recently cracked the screen of my Dell Vostro 1500. I am short on money so I was wondering if any of you could tell me away i could get a cheaper screen that will function with the computer or a place that sells something like refurbished or slightly blemished screens.

Any information you can give me will help

    thanks
    mike

You could check on eBay for a replacement part, but I'm not sure about what is exactly required here to make it work. Particularly worry some is how the LCD connects to the laptop, which may or may not be proprietary and thus require a Dell-specific part.

You can eBay it. They run for around $200.

since the vostro is pretty new, i assume you're still under factory warranty right? if so, couldn't you get dell to send you a new screen? just wondering.

Dell sources out their repairs for home direct, when the repair contractor arrived for my screen replacement, he mentioned that his van was full of used LCD screens.

I would inquire about who your local Dell contractor was, make contact, and make a deal on the side on a compatible screen.

    Good luck

Otherwise you can just hook up an external crt or lcd monitor till you get more money.

You can get a new screen from dell, with an auxiliary cable and new bumpers, for roughly $204 plus tax(maybe). That's how much a WXGA screen kit goes for. If you want a WSXGA+, about $309. (Canadian Prices)

    Or use an external monitor..

    How did you crack yours?

First thanks for the suggestions everyone.
second i cracked my screen by throwing a heavy metal pen to a friend who was sitting at my desk and he didnt catch it and it cracked the screen to the point where i can still use it but it seems like the crack is spreading out.

    Rules of computers:

Don't leave open drinks next to your laptop. Definitely don't let others sit near you with an open drink.

Don't throw things anywhere near your screen..don't let others throw things..

Don't let people point or put their stinky dirty fingers on your screen...

I'm very anal when it comes to this stuff lol

There are many third party screens, you could find out from dell how much they charge for a replacement screen (they do sell all the parts that go into their machines) or you can always hook up an external monitor to it.
