Today I went to lift up laptop and pinched the LCD a little to hard and ended up cracking it right under the mounting screw.I have a white stripe about 2 inches wide, down the middle of the screen. Dumb I know.. I was wondering what the best thing to do is? Buy a replacement lcd or just get an external display since it is going on three years old. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated

Choice more upto you if laptop stll works good for your problay look at anywhere 150 to 200 bucks vs the cost of replace laptop

New screens aren't cheap even on older models. It is up to you whether or not you can live with using an external monitor.

I saw some reasonable searches the last time I was looking around on eBay. Have you looked into that?

here is what it looks like if anyone is interested.. since this picture was taken the right side of the block is discolored and the left side is going also.

I would just get the regular e1505 LCD from ebay unless you really need the 1680 one. If that is the case and the cheapest one costs $400, then you might just be better off buying a newer Dell or using an external monitor for the time being.
The Dell outlet has some great deals on refurbished systems if you are not too picky. -
Since the replacement for it is around 400 bucks (1680res) I've decided its pointless to replace with that high of quality screen. There are tons of 1280res screens on ebay for like 100 bucks so definitely going to pick up one of those. I also will want that high resolution for the games I play so will most likely pick up an external display with somewhere in the range of 1400res range. Buying both will keep me well under 400 bucks and better decision for the life span of the laptop. I will def consider the dell outlet though, I forgot about that

Also do you think getting an external display from dell outlet is a good idea? they are dirt cheap, like 100 bucks for a 19 inch wide screen panel

For ~$150, you can pick up a 1680x1050 screen on ebay
