I hope it only applies to rebates and the weird percent off deals you get if you purchase an extended warranty.

The article I read said they were being fazed out over time.

Also, its likely the base price will simply be lower when the coupons go away -- as it was a bit of a scam to begin with. Many time the configured price minus the coupon was about what comparable laptops from other vendors were with no coupon.

Dell has always been a "deal" player to make you think you're getting a steal to entice you into making the snap judgement to buy (i.e. you think there is no way it'll show back up). When, in many cases, they had the coupons floating about, or the next 35% deal waiting for the next week anyway.

I'd rather see them go to an HP model where the prices remain more constant with special deals added here and there (free shipping, free upgrade, etc.) Much easier to judge value that way.

Yeah, I heard about this too. I say nab a good Dell deal when you see one, because you never know when Dell might pull the plug on them.

Dell did change their pricing strategies, but none of us really know what dell is going to do. Last year they did a similar thing. All of the sudden, they stated that no more coupons would be available, but they continued to issue them. Needless to say, Dell is very hard to predict. I guess we will see what happens on Thursday.

I heard that they were ending coupons back at the begining of the year. Has it happened? No. Nobody knows whether or not the coupons are really going to be around for a long time or not. If Dell would stop their coupons and leave the prices how they are now, I for one can honestly say that I would probably not buy another Dell. Their sales would go down drastically in the Home market I would bet.

Heh, well I don't suppose it really matters if they end the coupons or not. It'll only make it easier to see what a notebook actually costs if they do. Dell notebooks would be a complete rip off without them, and they wouldn't sell many if they didn't change the prices if they got rid of them.

If Dell does plan on ending coupons and rebates, I would expect them to reduce their prices dramatically. Otherwise they lose the only real advantages that they have over their competitors.

That is exactly right. basically, Dell prices are far too complicated and they lose sales because of that. As I stated earlier, it much easier to see consisent prices within a $150 range at HP than the $400-500 (and sometimes more) price jumps that happen at dell on a regular basis.
