Alright, I just set up an amazing laptop through Dell that would only cost a couple hundred more than another one I was looking at, but twice the performance. When I went to the cart, I used the $750 off a $1999 Inspiron coupon (since my laptop equaled $2005), but when I submitted it, this is the message I got next to the costs calculator:
Anyone know what's up? I would really like to know, since I need a replacement for my busted desktop for work and college right away.

which laptop is it you are trying to order? -
You can not use the highest configuration listed on dell's site - so if you want the E1705, you have to choose one of the other configurations - not the one that has the 35% off already taken off.
-
The same happened to me when I configured a $1008 laptop to get the 35% off 999+ deal to work on an e1405. I just hit the chat button and the representitive from Dell took a minute or two to clear it up. As long as you're not trying to get an XPS machine, try to get to a Dell rep and if the coupon should work they will likely make it work for you.

Here's the setup:
If I do use a coupon, does that wipe off the discount?
EDIT: Turns out that I can't use both, after using Live Chat will Dell, so the price ended up at $1781 after using the lowest Duo Core processor (T2300E), half the ram, 20 gigs less of hard drive space, reverting to integrated sound (no biggie, since the guys at AnAndTech said the Audigy feature was unnecessary since the laptop can only use 2.1 speakers), and also the 17" screen without the TrueLife technology. Everything else is the same, including the graphics card, except for I didn't add Dell OnCall.
Maybe someone would be kind enough to point out a laptop that's a little less that can stack up with this one (or hopefully even the one that I made in the first place)? I don't think I want to spend that much money. -
You might try a different coupon like the 35% off and see if you get a better deal, but no the coupons and discounts taken off of dell's site are not stackable/combinable with each other. Once you add a coupon, it will add any discount that had been taken off in the beginning.
If you want new laptop suggestions, please go to our "What Should I buy Forum" and fill out the questionnaire. It will help us give specific suggestions for you.

35% off $2000 = $1300! Why don't you just use your original config and the Dell Home 35% off coupon? That's pretty much the same as $750 off ...
If the Dell home coupon doesn't work, you can perhaps buy one of those 30% off ebay coupons for $4. They seem to work on all notebooks, I think, though check the description. Mine worked, even on an XPS system, and it saved me quite a bit. That would still put you at $1400 with your original config -- much more affordable than $1800 with a less good configuration.
My sister has the previous version of the e1705 (before the Centrino was dual core), and I really like it -- it's a fantastic machine. Don't skimp on the resolution with a laptop that big! -
I think the $2005 is after the 35% off...
