I heard there were some issues with one of these brands (Samsung or LGs)- or at least a big difference in quality for the e1705 lcd screen. I was wondering could someone elaborate more on it since I plan to make a purchase soon. My bro laptop Inspiron 9200s lcd was fine at first until it broke, when he got it replaced, I think I noticed a difference in picture quality- it was a lot more gray-ish rather than the vibrant colors of reg lcd screens like on my hp laptop. So I want 2 questions be answered:
1.) how can you tell if the monitor is Samsung or LGs
2.) how can I make my purchase to make sure I get the better one- when I order, Im definitely picking (UXGA Display with TrueLife)- then again, my bro also picked this when he ordered it and the picture quality isnt so great after it was replaced.

1.) you can either look at the packaging slip or you can download a program off the web which will tell you (called Powerstrip)
2.) You can't. You get what dell sends you. If you don't like the screen, then you'll have 21 days from your shipment date to contact dell about getting a replacement. After the 21 day period, you'll be stuck with that screen unless it breaks. -
ic thanks Southern Girl! You're the best. Btw...which screen has the better picture quality- Samsung or LGs?
-
I believe it is the LG
-
I'm not sure which is best since I don't have experience with both screens. I know the truelife screen is the best compared to the matte screen for the larger laptops.

You can login to your Dell.com account to check under orders.

I can track the build process, in the order details it shows me the parts like screen, processor, etc, but i can see numbers only like this:
OrderGroup Quantity Item Description
1 1 320-4926 17 inch UltraSharp TrueLife Wide-screen WUXGA, for Inspiron 9400/E1705
Can i know what LCD brand is that? -
No, that only tells you that you ordered a 17 Truelife screen. It does not give you the specific model. You are either going to have to wait for your laptop to come or see if your uncle will log into his account and see what the order says.
Personally, I would just wait until you receive your laptop. Even if you find out which screen it is right now, there is nothing you can do about it. Dell won't change out your screen while it is still being built.
Plus, screen quality is more of a personal preference. What I like, might not be what you like. -
just wait for your laptop . then get the service tag, type in dell support and see what parts did they put in your system. With Samsung screen, the brightness is not very bright, also, if you look closer to the screen, you'll notice the screen's Clarity is kinda weird compare to other laptop brand. When it comes to LG, there's nothing to complain about , except the 2 dark spots on the lower corner of the screen.

ditto, I am lucky to get the LP screen.

Sorry for bringing this thread back again but i recently got my new e1705, and installed powerstrip. Where do i go to find out if i have LG or samsung. I'm not sure if this is it, but when I went to monitor information, i see under model information: LPL0000, is that LG?
-
Go to the Dell website, enter your Service Tag. You can see your components there.
-
Yes, LPL is LG. How does it look?
-
a lot better compared to my bro's Inspiron 9300. However, When i compared it to my (soon-to-be-returned hp8000t), I do admit the colors of the HP is no comparison to dell so HP wins in that area.
-
Yea. I compared the LG lcd that I got on this notebook to the $400 LG 1970HR lcd that I got for my desktop. The desktop one beats it hands down in color quality and clarity. Also there is some light leakage on my laptop lcd but it isn't too severe. Might be washing out the colors on the bottom a little though. Can't tell for sure.
Could someone clarify the lcd screens for e1705?
