My neighbor's factory HD has crashed and burned for the second time in 12 months (this is his third). The first, Dell replaced but this one I need to take care of. Everywhere I've read says don't buy a SATA drive for the inspiron 6400, but that's the type of drive it came with. I ordered an ATA because of this caution but will I be able to install it? Thanks so much.

i think it needs a sata drive, as IDE wouldnt fit (its a different conector).

Sata and ide are the same apart from the connector, just get a samsung or WD SATA drive and it should be fine.

OK, thanks SO much! I hate buying hardware for neighbors because I never know what I am doing. :)
