Do you think the E1405 will be outfitted with the Core Duo 2 processors? From what I've read, it will be out in a few months. Still trying to decide whether to get the E1405 now or wait till the "Merom" processors arrive. If performance is as they say, I can wait a few months and even pay a little extra for the added speed. Thanks.

Merom (Core 2) is backward compatible with Yonah (Core). You could do like me and buy a Core system now and then wait for the Core 2 chips to come out and drop a little, then upgrade!

Right, it's actually Core 2 Duo, I know, Intel's marketing is a little confusing.
Anyway, they'll probably offer it, but as noted, you should be able to self-upgrade if you're interested in that route. I wouldn't expect units to ship with Core 2 until very late in the year, early next though. -
When upgrading from "yonah" to "Merom", is it complicated to replace the processor? Do i need to bring it to a laptop shop and let them configure the hardware?

Thinking that Intel's last two months of press releases, including the website of Merom/Conroe, it looks to me that they have decided upon the early release of Merom with Conroe's to unplug the dam of enthusiasm for the Core Duo; Intel has intro'd their Core 2 Duo website, now. I expect the Merom CPUs just around the time of Conroe; Intel needs the injection and so do the notebook builders; ask them how their sales are going if you think otherwise.

If you have a Dell warranty, you will lose it if you upgrade the cpu. I really don't know about taking it in to a Dell repair shop, but more likely the new processor would not be under warranty and the system be under warranty. I don't think that is true though. I would ask them about it.
Core Duo or Core Duo 2?
