I just got an E1505 with Core Duo, and was wondering if that was XP x64 compatible?

    Regards.

No it's not. The core duo processors are 32 bit.

However the Merom processor that will be out later this year is 64 bit. Merom will work in any core duo / centrino duo notebook with a bios update... and hopefully dell will make one avialable.

So if we purchase a Core Duo notebook in a month..we will be able to upgrade to the Merom chip when it becomes widely available without having to buy a new computer???? Will we have to upgrade other things along with it? When is Merom coming out in laptops?

"'Merom' - is due to debut in Q3 2006"

No just the bios... and actually... knowing how dell is they may not make an update for it. Making you want to buy their new merom notebook.

Yep, Core Duo is 32-bit only. Merom is supposed to be PIN-compatable, but like Fred said, I think they're going to "update" the entire Inspiron line and refresh the design (the design change is much needed IMO) as well as the innards.
