I'm planning to order the Intel® Core 2 Duo T5550 (2MB cache/1.83GHz/667Mhz FSB). The other option is to shell out another 50$ and get the a Intel® Core 2 Duo T7250 (2MB cache/2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB).
Is there a big difference between the two processors?

$50 is worth it. I highly recommend the upgrade. The difference may not be so large at the moment (although still significant), but the higher you go the more futureproof your laptop gets so it is definitely worth it.
Here in Canada this upgrade would cost me more than $150. -
yeah... i said get it. get the 4mb cache if you can.

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
There isn't a huge difference, but as mentioned, the upgrade is probably worth the money in this case. I'll take a random stab and say the T7250 is maybe 10 to 20 percent faster in benchmarks.

I got the T5500 for my XPS M1330 because I was being overly cheap. lol I was going to change it to the 7000 series but that would have meant scrapping the order and re ordering when it was almost through with production anyway so I just kept it.
I can't tell you how good the T5500 performs because I haven't opened the box yet. It just arrived at my house and I'm at school right now. -

it all depends on what you do with the laptop . I got the 5450 and I can play serious sam 2 with everything max with no slowdowns.
Since my notebook can be upgraded to penryn I would rather do that at a later date since I can play the games I want at full speed right now anyway. -

I had a 5450 and didn't like it. It seemed MUCH slower to me than the T7700...I realize there is a difference in MHz but the cache for what I do really helped. I recommend spending the little extra it takes to get the T7000 series as in the future you will regret not buying it.
-
I'd shell out for the T7000 proc.
If you can, get a Penryn... -
I concur with Matt...if the 8000 series is available...go for it, as the extra cache and lower temps will be nicer in the long run.

Spend the extra 50 bucks. When you look at the overall cost of the laptop, it is worth skimping on one of the most important parts?

Want a comparison chart of various processors....Here you go
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php
The 5450 and 7250 differs by just 75 points in Passmark...So is it that great a difference? Could some one post what could this mean regarding to performance..
I am going for 1530 but totally confused about the processor selection. Both differs by 100$ in India -
I was going thru the signatures of various members to find a better comparison.
Thats when I found these two
