Hey everyone! Woo first thread I've ever started! Moving on... (Everyone remember July 4th 2007... the day the world changed with my first thread)

I just recently bought an XPS m1330... though it won't be here for a month or so... And like most of you know... it's a 13.3 inch screen and really thin. I got it with a dedicated video card and that produces more heat and it's a really small chasis as is... I dunno if I need a cooler for this thing or not. I did see on the review forum for the m1330 that the reviewer said the system did get a tad hot.

I am SERVERLY paranoid with anything I spend a lot of money on and I just kinda wanted to know if you think a cooler is necessary for this machine. And if so which ones would you recommend. I much prefer a passive cooler since this system only has 2 USB ports and I hate noise... Thanks in advance!

imo it shouldnt be necessary, a cooler kinda defeats the purpose of a light laptop... I doubt it gets that hot.

Don't bother with the 8400m anyway, just stick with x3100 for least amount of heat + longest battery life

That ones seems pretty kewl but I was looking more for a passive cooler. That's definitely my top choice if I decide to go for an active cooler though.

I doubt it gets that hot. As long as you don't use the laptop on your lap for too long it should be fine. Basically, don't block the vents and you'll be fine. Most over-heating problems occur on people's laps, beds, floors, etc.

You could always opt for the 9-cell battery if you don't mind the added weight. The raised design prevents heat buildup underneath and increased airflow at the vents. Nice angle for typing, too. :)
