Yeah, looks pretty pointless to me. I would be surprised to see this produced.
-
wow, uhhh, this could be interesting. I wonder how it will sell, hot swapping hdds is an interesting idea, take all your stuff to work with you (suddenly the usb key bussiness plummets )
-
Yeah, it's supposed to be more upgrade friendly, but how do you upgrade the motherboard?
-
hmm, for some reason I think that is like those super futuristic concept cars you see, they might use parts of the design in the next gen but I doubt anything that extreme will be out for a long time to come...
-
Completely aside from whether it's practical or possible -
I don't even really think it's that cool
This idea really came from an Alienware designer and not a kid bored in class? I mean, why a tube? It's not aesthetically pleasing, it's not space efficient, and it doesn't seem easy to maintain! And if we're talking the future, why settle for such bulky "hard drive cartridges" when stuff like NAND memory is making the headlines.
I think the coolest concept for a computer I've seen is ASUS's idea to just have an open-air series of shelves for components. Makes you feel like your computer is a modular synthesizer -
Agreed. It looks pointless, doesn't look cool, and would be overpriced all-around.
Cool! Dell next generation desktop
