Ok thought I would mention this so everybody knows before making a purchase. I don't know if this is the same around the world on your Dell website but it certainly is on the UK website.

I was going to make a purchase today but didn't.

I asked for a call back got a telephone call from a Dell Sales rep (UK operation based in India) and I enquired about what sort of delivery times is it as on the Dell website it shows 3 weeks for the Dell Studio XPS 1340 and 1640.

This sales rep told me it's not that long so then we continued to spec up a system, she asked which would I want to go for out of the 3 pre-configured systems, I said the cheapest obviously and then spec it up accordingly. This Sales person insisted I go for the second option which price starts a couple hundred pounds more as it already has a blue-ray drive in the configuration. She was giving me the right run around with unessary addon's like would I want McAfee anti-virus as it is the best I said no I already have much better security software, then she says would I want Microsoft Office, I said No I already have it. As for extended warrenty she was trying to say I should go for 4 years as its the best and 1 year is collect and return only??? Hey I would disagree 4 years is better than 1 but that 1 year is at home repair or replacement so what she was telling me was bull. I actually had an arguement about this and ended up putting the phone down as by now the configuration I had spec'ed up myself prior was £250 more according to what she was saying.

Luckly I did hang up as after I got off the phone I looked into this a bit more and I noticed dependding on which option of configuration you go for the total price works out a lot different.

If you don't know about this make sure you do look between the configurations and see if there is a difference.

all the configs are different (they start at different $ and different config), so you have to see if the price is worth it to upgrade or not..

and they always have these 'special' configs(some are worth it.. i got one that has 3 yr warranty default that is cheaper than whatever i can confing with 3 yr warranty, and i wanted at least 3 yr warranty).... and coupons

might be a little different(probably less $ leeway allowed in UK vs US), but similar

I think it's all bull, two exact configs at two different prices and then they tell you other bull some say the online price is the best price and won't haggle with you and others will and others will even phone you to tell you to cancel your order you have just placed as they will offer you a better price than the other sales person, I've had that too.

Their all full of it and I think customers really need to watch themselves as they could find themselves paying a lot more than they should be dealing with these kind of conniving arse holes.

On another occasion I didn't bother with the a sales person I placed my order online as the price online was better than what the sales person offered, next day I saw my order was cancelled by somebody? in the after noon I was bombarded with telephone calls from Dell sales when I was at work in meetings, I had to switch my phone off. I later found out another order was cancelled due to a "technical error" ????? and the following day they wouldn't match the same price as I placed an order with online infact offered the same spec at £100 more which obviously I didn't accept.

They are conniving pieces of crap. Dell was much better when it was UK based for UK customers. This really puts me off Dell, at least with other manufacturers you know what the price is and all you do is either order or buy the system in a store.

An interesting read about these kind of dodgy indian call centers,

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7953401.stm

this company is Symantec (Norton). Symantec apparently are looking into shutting that one down. Good I say!

This is a copy of a post I made on another thread -

I ordered my XPS 1530 a couple weeks ago. I was doing it online, but I had to call a sales rep because I was being overcharged on shipping. The sales rep tried to sell me everything under the sun. I didn't mind it because I understand they want to make extra profit. However, what really irked me is he flat out lied to me on one item.

He tried to sell me MS Office 2007. I told him I had Office 2003 with one more downoad on it. He told me that Office 2003 would not run on Vista 64 bit. I didn't know if this was true at the time, but I declined because I knew if I had to buy a new version I would get it way cheaper on eBay.

I posted that question here while I was waiting for my laptop to be delivered and people here told me it would load and run fine Well guess what, it loaded and runs fine.

Like I said I don't mind them trying to sell extras, but lying to customers is way out of bounds in my book. I love my laptop, but it left me with a very bad impression of Dell.

In my book too. I actually telephoned Dell UK head office in Bracknell UK about this bull as I wanted to put a complaint in, it's like only 20 minutes away from me. I think they were quite shocked that I telephoned them as I found out an internal telephone number from http://www.saynoto0870.com/search.php I explained about all the bull that I'm having trying to order and about my order being canceled and they actually said that's not on and gave me an email address to make a complaint to. Nothing happened though as of coarse my complaint ends up in India so it's like going round in circles, not even a reply to it but when I was on the telephone to Dell UK head office they did say also that Dell was much better when it was UK based for UK customers.

Noway are they going to make profits as a company since going Indian, I know so many people that have had problems with them or simply gone else where. Arse holes the lot of them.

You can always send a complaint to Dell Corporate, located in the US.
I have this sinking feeling you will be changing your Avatar very soon.

I would do that Cin, any idea of the address?

Dont get me wrong Dell used to be good and I have been a customer for years I like the systems but now this is just complete rubbish and the only good thing is the systems (if they don't have manufacturing issues or problems) and the technician that comes round to fix problems but that normally is a contracted company. I just don't want to even have to deal with these arse holes that try and rip you off, its more headache than its worth.

I understand how you feel, I think if you *carefully* constructed an e-mail in a way that would get the attention from the exec's at Dell, you would get a prompt response, and they will listen to your concerns and issues at hand. ;)

Usually, the very first few e-mail addy's on the list, get a good response. I sent one to the first address, and heard back within a few days. My e-mail was regarding Dells pricing, etc. on the Adamo 13.

Good luck to you...and take a deep breath...There's a resolution to most everything! ;)

Thanks, I'll fly one out to each of them. I did just speak to Dell USA sales asking about a correct address and the person told me that dell usa wouldn't be able to address the issue but I'll try with the email addresses you gave.

Ok the same good constructed email explaining everything has gone to each of them, all headed with "From a loyal Dell customer". Hopefully it will get noticed that way.

I see I've got a undeliverable message from Donald Carty and Larry Tu is away on business with limited email access so far. The others I haven't had any automatic replies from so perhaps they have received it in their email inbox.

Nothing at all from any of them, no reply nothing. I sent the same email again day before yesterday and no reply.

They obviously can't be bothered, not what you expect when you have been a Dell customer for years and I stated that in my email.

    Very off putting...
