My Dell 1520 will be used for showing audio-visuals via a data projector and an external amplifier. Being somewhat prudent as well as an electronics tech, before I inserted the audio plug I measured the apparent voltage between the audio (headphone) output jack and the lead from the amplifier, and found a potential of about 65 volts a.c., albeit at a low current of about 0.1 milliamp.
I do not know if the audio output circuits in the Dell are diode-protected against this sort of leakage voltage and current, and I do not want to just take the risk without more info.
Can anybody give me more information, or tell their experience of using their computer in this manner? and was there any problem?
Thanks,
Colin

I've hooked up my laptops to home theater amplifiers and amplified studio monitors without any problems, don't know how your situation would be any different.
