I have a Vostro 1500 with nVidia GeForce 8400M GS card. It has a VGA port and a S-Video port for TV-Out. I bought a video cable that has a S-Video male connector and male composite connector. I've tried connecting the laptop with a TV, but the TV doesn't get detected at all. The cable is conneced properly to the TV and I've tested it on another TV as well with the same result. Is this cable of any use at all?

Are you using the dongle cable from Dell or just those generic S-video/composite cable that fused together? I have the Dell S-video/composite/digital audio dongle and it works.

Your setting the laptop to dual screen arn't you? 'fn' and f8 should tell you if there is an external monitor connected. When I connected my laptop to my old tv via svideo to yellow rca cable I had to change the setting on the tv to svideo for the input channel all worked then, looks crap on dekstop but its fine for video playback.
