I don't wish to break any rules by posting links, but have noticed that for some reason eBay has a lot of sellers (being powersellers mostly that sells a large variety of other laptops).
These sellers state it's brand new and some of them are configured to the point where it's actually cheaper to go through these eBay sellers. I'm thinking of getting a XPS m1210 through these people but am thinking if it is actually safe to do so. There is a problem that I am unable to go through Dell direct because I am not at home and am away for work. I am an extensive eBay user and am aware of scams and whatnots to purchase over eBay, so I am not being fooled by the "too good to be true" scams. These sellers actually list their shops.
What I intended to do was to go to these shops and inspect the laptop (for dead pixels and such).
What do you guys think? Has anyone purchased a Dell laptop over eBay before?
-
yes, you'll be fine. They are indeed unopened notebooks. If it did come with several dead pixels, you can call Dell and get the monitor replaced. Even if you purchased from eBay, Dell still honors the warranty. There is absolutely nothing wrong with buying from eBay.
Good luck to you. -
Sirius: Thank you for quick response.
The reason I ask is because I am actually urgently needing a laptop without going through Dell, I am moving places again and this new place of mine I am temporarily in has no desk, and my current laptop is too heavy/hot to use on the lap.
Not to be rude or cheeky, what makes you so sure of the laptops being unopened? Have you done it before? -
Simply put, yes
If you're looking for good deals on D630's PM me
and to clarify with my answer,
Dell is the only company that makes Dell. Essentially, the only way to purchase a Dell is THROUGH Dell. Those eBay sellers all purchased from Dell. Either they picked up a lot during a good deal, used a premier discount, are selling left over business laptops, etc. But they all originate from Dell so Dell still honors the warranty for them. You can go to Dell and transfer ownership online also with the use of the express code on the bottom of the notebook along with the service tag. Sorry if this is a little bit confusing, I need sleep. G'nite or g'day. -
A lot of these people buy through AAFES or when a good deal hit's slickdeals or fatwallet and then resell making a few dollars.

I got mines from ebay, was slightly cheaper than from dell site.
Was all completly sealed in box and didn't seem to have been booted up or used at all before.
And yeah your warranty still stands no matter where you buy it from. -
Remember, you can always transfer the warranty as well!

I see. I infact contacted a seller on eBay yesterday. He seems very nice and legit, who is selling m1210s. He reckons that as soon as the m1310 comes out Dell will stop doing the m1210s. Maybe he was just trying to talk me into buying it, which I don't blame him.
I'm unsure which to go for, as the m1310 has a slightly bigger screen with a iBook style CD drive, but only 2 USB ports ... I know I can expand it with hubs and such, but it's somewhat of a difficult decision.
Hmm ... -
My favorite are the ones who label their notebooks as "New Sealed in Box", then explained they have opened it for testing purposes only.
lol they are so kind to make sure it works for us.
