Just looked in rivatuner, states 256mb DDR3
-
-
Awesome. Lets hope the US DDR2 observations aren't accurate.
-
Please confirm memory clock, 400/800 or 700/1400? RivaTuner will say that the memory is DDR3 whether it is DDR2 or DDR3.
-
Someone in the Sager forum said this about the Sager and there was a large argument. Apparently rivatuner isn't fully compaitable with mobile cards so it may be wrong.
-
rivatuner is meant for desktops not laptops.
-
until he reports mem clock, im not convinced haha ><;
-
yeah... Rivatuner is only for desktops, not laptops.
-
How do I go about checking the clocks? AtiTool and 3dMark06 dont show anything.
-
The odd thing with Australia is we have had more confirmation of DDR3 than some of the other countries. Personally I think it's wrong because Dell Malaysia reps should know since they build the things.
Advertised as... DDR3 - Configuration as DDR2 - Confirmation as DDR2 - Online Invoice as DDR3.
If I get DDR2 and my invoice says DDR3, even though I knew I was getting DDR2 I'm probably still going to complain since my sales rep annoyed me to no end. -
Well I just ran 3dMark06 with stock drivers under Vista and got 3300 at 1280x800 Im running 1024x768 now. Then I will use the Laptopvideo2go.com drivers, Then tommorow XP.
-
Rivatuner doesn't display the correct Vram in the 8600gt. If you really want to know if its DDR2 or DDR3, check memory clock speed.
-
Same thing for me in NZ they assured me it's DDR3 and in my online invoice it says DDR3, well have to wait till tomorrow to find out i guess.
-
It's less about whether it's GDDR2 or GDDR3, it's about the clock speed. As far as I know, all the 1520's 8600M GTs are coming with a 400/800MHz memory clock speed.
-
Well I cant use the updated drivers as laptopvideo2go.com wont load for some reason.
-
Got 5000 3dmark06 with stock Drivers and very mild overclocking at 1024x768 Riva Tuner displays the defualts as 475mhz and 400mhz.
-
-
-
lol...fabricating numbers are we?
edit: or define mild overclocking -
Wow, might want to have a fire extinguisher nearby- lol
-
As I said, I overclocked. I will be writing a review in the next day or two, Heres hopeing LaptopVideo2Go.com comes back soon.
-
Could you please post a screenshot of that result? -
Also, could you please tell me what the part number for your 8600m-gt is.. it should be on the invoice. Thanks!
-
Gee thanks for your faith people . These are still with the Dell Drivers and with the out of the box Vista Home OS. I will put Ultimate and XP on it later tonight but theres little point until I can get drivers for them.
Part number WW684 -
*bows*
I won't doubt you again. That's awesome. -
-
impressive stuff...
-
We need an ORB link, not a image which can be easily photochopped
Also some real game tests -
I will submit a review to www.notebookreview.com sometime tommorow. I will list how I got those speeds. If anyone has the current Vista drivers for Nvidia or the modded INF could you please send it to me so I can run the tests? same for XP.
-
holly crap.
wait... so is it really ddr3?
or is it the ddr2 most of us are stuck with...but overclocked like crazy?
isnt overclocking that much very dangerious? gesh.
and what was your clock speeds stock? before you overclocked and all. -
You should be able to replicate it yourselves easily enough. Just went into RivaTuner and set it to 680mhz Core, And 550mhz Memory, No artifacts or glitching and not even hot. I will obviously do more thourough testing later. Im still trying to sort out with Dell why they gave me the wrong Wifi chip, No bluetooth, No Spidif cable, and No bluetooth headset all of which I paid for.
Oh and Ive been on this site for over a year, Ive written a few reviews, And Ive got a decent rep score, Why would I bother faking something that could easily be proven wrong?. -
If Oceania and Asia are getting GDDR3 and the US gets DDR2 then there's gonna be a riot!
-
RivaTuner showed the same base clocks as the review posted a few days ago. Looks like their the same, mine probably had less bloatware on it than the original reviewers.
-
if you have the same base clocks as the reviewer...that means you have the same card right? which means your card is the same as all the US guy's 1520.
so ..
im assuming you just got your ddr2 overclocked the much now. very impressive nevertheless. -
Other 1520 reviews with 3Dmark06 scores here at NBR:
Stella's review
ps2cho's review
larson's review -
that is INSANE, I'd love to see a thorough explanation/somebody else match it...so is it actually DDR3?
-
I would love to lol but it just hurts too much -
Guys guys relax...Matt has DDR2 just like everyone else, and his stock clock speeds are the same as everyone else's. Nothing to worry about. Everyone gets 400/475 DDR2. Dell wouldn't be dumb enough to give ONE country DDR3; as someone else said there would be a riot
He did say he got 5000 running at 1024x768 and OC'd to 680/550. Everyone else was running 3dmark06 at 1280x1024 or 1280x800 when they got high 2000s and low 3000s. I'm sure if they OC'd to his numbers and ran at the lower res they'd get 5000 too. No magic secrets here!
Still very awesome, and my Vostro is looking better ever day, but please! Slow down, read other posts more thoroughly in future IMO -
-
Have to agree with ya Ackeron. Until someone clocks the memory bus to 700mhz with no probs or rips out their card and eyeballs the chips I'm still thinking it's DDR2. I'm still impressed with the benchmark though..
The 3Dmark06 benchmarks are dependent on resolution, which is kind of frustrating- often resolution is not stated when people start quoting their numbers. Not to say that anyone is doing that here but I thought I was dealing with a single "standard" when I was reading these numbers. An obvious newb mistake, what can I say, the last time I bought a card for performance was ti-4600. This also puts all the results I saw at notebookcheck.com in question... I rechecked and still have no idea at what resolution their 3Dmark06 were done at. Also check out ps2cho's numbers in the link above: 3139@1280x800.
I did a few google searches with terms like "3dmark06 1024x768 8600m-gt" and "3dmark06 1024x768 go 7950-gtx" and the vostro/inspiron card still looks pretty juicy, especially for the price.
edit: One other thing I noticed with 3Dmark06 benchmarks... higher speed, namely 7200 rpm, HDs can make a pretty big difference in the scores. Then again, I can't see HD speed making a huge difference in actual game play for a lot of games... but who knows. -
and to believe people would wast money on a g1s lol I really need one of these laptops
-
-
Actually I was running Vista as stated. I have not been able to overclock under XP for some reason.
-
Wait here you say you got 3300 stock under vista? In the other post you say you scored 3300 in xp(may have misinterpreted). Using xp should have netted you a sizable increase. In any case, why are your stock scores significantly better than other 1520 owners? I mean people are scoring 400 or more points less than you on average. -
Jesus... I got the following
Under Vista:
1280x800 stock 3295
1024x768 Stock 3671
1024x768 Overclock 4939
Under XP:
1280x800 stock 3589
1024x768 stock 4023
As for why I got higher I have the 2.2ghz core, the one reviewed the other day is 2.0ghz. I also turned off alot of the Dell bloatware before running the tests -
Read his posts before you go assuming things, don't just skim for numbers.
-
Great stuff matt_h1... now i can wait in peace till my laptop arrives
-
Great info matt, but you should run the 3dmark scores under default test conditions like everyone else does...ie -> 1280x1024. Its nice to see all these numbers at lower screen resolutions but when it comes to comparisons they're useless. I'd be more interested in seeing a score run at 3dmark default settings (1280x1024) while you have it overclocked, so there's at least something to compare to. (The alternative is making every other person out here run 3dmark at lower resolutions to compare, but who wants to play games at lower res anyway?)
I also have the 2.2ghz chip and got a score of 3199 without overclocking, so I'm quite interested in what kind of increases overclocking gives at the regular 3dmark resolution. -
-
matt have the 512 mb 8600m gt so that would give him a curve ~~
I can confirm in 1720
resolution 1280x800 (because its basic 3dmarks06) stock - 3313
Overclock 600/500 with same resolution is - 4114
Temperature - below 58 (its jumps from 55-58 but haven't seen over 59 or even the number "60")
used laptovideogo drivers 158
used Ntune to overclock
Lets suppose we can take about 500-600 off the overclocked of 4114 and that would give you the 1280x1024 resolution score 3500-3700 which is about right for those dell 8600m gt 256mb.
(I did get compensation for the false advertisement, so dell is ddr2)
Thats my 2 cent and overclock for the day b10tch~~ -
Huh?
matt has since returned his 1520
Confirmed DDR3 in AU 1520.
