When I turned on my computer today it started making weird, somehwhat loud, inconsistant squeaky noises. At first I was like "Oh great, this must be those HDD noises people are talking about". So I turned it off to see if a restart would help... but I still heard the noises, even when it was off.

Then I unplugged it and the noises went away... When I plugged it back in the noises came back. The sounds come from very close to the power input. After like 5-7 min the sounds went away... I wonder if its because it just heated up. This morning is somewhat cold.

With all these little problems such and a lose keyboard, and terrible looking light leakage, I may return my laptop. If the E1705 gets the 7900 anytime soon then I will be doing so for sure. I cant belive how hot this stupid thing gets...

But anyways, what do you have to do in order to get your money back? Obviously shipping the notebook back will be part of it. How long does it take to get your refund? Also you do get 29 days to return right?

Its 21 days to return it, although, you can return it past 21 days, if its not working right. At least, when i complained to Dell, i was offered to send it back.

Where is the noise coming from exactly? The power brick does make a humming sound, but i dont think it could be that loud as you were describing it.

From the looks of it, you got a dud system. Best thing i would do, is to return it. And either re-order, or get something else.

The noise you here is due to a bad power component on the motherboad/powerboard. The light leakage is fixed on the newer models. It sounds to me like you got my old e1705 that i sent in - lol. the replacement fixed the light leakage, the buzzing noise and the newer one runs cooler as well. (i have the 2.16GHz witht he 7800 video card.

Dell's return policy is 21 days. I think they will pay for the shipping back if you return it. If they say they don't, insist on it and list the reasons why (light leakage, bad powerboard, etc). If you make enough of a fuse (or ask for a manager) they will pickup payment for it.

Sorry to hear about your problems. Don't count on the 7900 video card in the e1705. My sources at Dell tell me that it may be in the next model which will replaced the e1705 when the new chips come out.

    Hope that helps!

Now do you have 21 days to ship it out from when you got it? Or do they have to get it within 21 days of when they shipped it to you?

Also I think the E1705 may get the 7900. PCWorld did a review on a E1705 with it. This is where I got that from... http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=149673

Dont worry, call them, and tell them the issues you are having. They will send you a replacement for free, or you can return your current E1705. it is up to you

Like i said, in some cases, (like yours) it will work over 21 days. As, i have tried this myself
